COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our version of an unusual, yet resurgent, beer style. It pays tribute to the pleasantly sour, slightly salty wheat beers that originated in Goslar and became popular in Leipzig, Germany around the late 1800s. A great introductory sour beer, Hibiscus Gose receives coriander and sea salt during boiling, then we steep dried hibiscus flowers at the end to create a vibrant pink hue (really, though, its pink!). The result is a tangy, sweet and sour ale with a refreshing citrus character.

from a fresh 12 oz bottle: aroma - floral hibiscus up front and center, hay and light bready malts, salt with hint of coriander. appearance - deep gold/pale amber with a reddish tint, a 1/2" white head with low retention. perfectly clear. taste - just a bit tart not quite sour. the flowery hibiscus flavor combines well with the mild bitterness, which stays at the palate, the saltiness and the spices. palate - medium light body, but with a substantial, almost rich texture. lively carbonation and slight astringency. finishes long, tangy and smooth with persistent saltiness. overall - refreshing and light as a good gose should be. the hibiscus gives it its own identity and makes it more interesting that a straight gose.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/13/2017. Pours slightly hazy pinkish golden/orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart lemon, lime, cherry, strawberry, pear, green apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, herbal, floral, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, hibiscus, spices, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, cherry, strawberry, pear, green apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, herbal, floral, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate hibiscus/lactic tartness and light coriander spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, cherry, strawberry, pear. green apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, herbal, floral, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, hibiscus, spices, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance; and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and fairly saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a great gose! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, hibiscus, spices, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the mellow tartness/acidity. A very classic tasting take on the style; outstanding balance between all flavors. A really delicious offering.

Funky barnyard fruit and citrus on the nose. Nice redish orange color with a huge white head. Not a sour fan, so here goes. Sour up front...grapefruit mixed in. Slightly watery. Refreshing but one is enough for me.
