UPDATED: JUN 21, 2012 Draft sample (or maybe a few) at St. Louis Microfest 2011. This made the VIP tent worth it. Pours a deep, hazy brown color with no head whatsoever. Looks like an old barleywine. Aroma of bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, sour berry fruits, plums, chocolate, and toffee. The flavor shows awesome balance between the barrel and sour fruity notes- more sour berries, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, caramel malts, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and some earthy notes. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a tart, funky, acidic mouthfeel. Lemon juice lingers in the aftertaste but that barrel sweetness never goes away completely. This might be the only beer I tried twice that day. Awesome sour. Re-Rate: Pour from a 750 ml bottle shared by birchstick- thanks, Jon! Rating confirmed. Still love this one, and agree with my notes. Except for a couple points- it isn’t quite as funky or acidic as first noted. Sweeter and smoother. Doing really well right now. Purposefully waited to rate this until I could make it my 2200th rating. Sampled at Big Beers Belgians & Barleywines fest in Vail 2013. Murky burnt orange with a thin cap head. Has some settled particles on the bottom of the glass that doesn’t look like classic yeast...almost looks like tiny pencil shavings. Intense sour aroma of bactillic wood, port wine, and acidic fruit. Flavor is delightful with a fruity tone that’s kinda all over the place, with a certain brightness of acidic zest, port barrel wood, and a bretty dry finish. Bottle @ Dan’s house. Thanks Steven! Hazy dark orange appearance with a small off white head. Mild whiskey, spicy cinnamon, vanilla, oaky, red fruity, tart aroma. 750mL thanks to Travlr! Pours a full haze, deeper orange tea. Weaker off white foam. Nose is sharp red wine, acetic, saltwater. Taste is tangy, orange, butter, tangy orange. Some sharper ruby red grapefruit juice and lime. Sharp, tangy, not too acetic. Salty all the way. Butter/diacetyl is a little distracting. As it warms, it cleans up. Salty, balsamic, red wine tannic and sharp. Bourbon barrel is a bit of a mismatch but the beer is very nice underneath. Very good.

Clear ruby red pour with thin to no head, aroma has notes of vinegar, lemon, hints of caramel, toffee, touch of red ripe fruit with some cherry, touch of alcohol and vanilla notes as well, touch of honey. Taste is a nice mix of bourbon, vanilla, some vinegar and lemon notes, touch of bread, hints of caramel, slight red ripe fruits with a hint of bourbon, finishing fairly sweet, slightly sour and dry. 3fourths (9367) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 5, 2012
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2012 bottle. early pour is mostly clear, amber in color, with a small tan-colored ring of a head. tart, dried fruit with soft acetic acid and ethyl acetate, light touches of solvent and mild bourbon and tannic oak note that has flashes of red wine. medium body with light and fizzy carbonation, aggressive acid and mild brown malt and bourbon and solvent notes lingering late. much more integrated than the Deschutes/HOTD Collage, but similarly messy and direction-less, which I guess is what you get when you go for "something sour in a spirit barrel". b3shine (9271) - Indiana, USA - OCT 21, 2013

750 thanks to Holly. I’m pretty sure I smelled this year’s ago on a tour. Cherry and vinegar. A nice brown tartness to this beer. Some red grapes. A bit of that so called leather in nose. Very nice.
