UPDATED: JUN 21, 2012 Draft sample (or maybe a few) at St. Louis Microfest 2011. This made the VIP tent worth it. Pours a deep, hazy brown color with no head whatsoever. Looks like an old barleywine. Aroma of bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, sour berry fruits, plums, chocolate, and toffee. The flavor shows awesome balance between the barrel and sour fruity notes- more sour berries, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, caramel malts, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and some earthy notes. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a tart, funky, acidic mouthfeel. Lemon juice lingers in the aftertaste but that barrel sweetness never goes away completely. This might be the only beer I tried twice that day. Awesome sour. Re-Rate: Pour from a 750 ml bottle shared by birchstick- thanks, Jon! Rating confirmed. Still love this one, and agree with my notes. Pungent sour funky fruit, cherry. Some sweetness, Tannic fruit. Pillowy pinkish head on pour. Settles to ring on light murky brown. Taste is sour with spots of sweet. Just hints. Aroma of vinous a touch vinegar, sherry and vanilla, earthy and a touch funky. flavor stars sweet for a quick second with vanilla and oak before hitting hard with vinous tart notes, bretty and earthy funk. Aroma of oaked chardonnay, maple, and funk. Pours deep orange slight fizzy head. Taste is sweet like a sweet white wine, nice funky yeast, and great biscuit bourbon notes. Fantastic.

Pour is hazed, vibrant reddish-amber with a nice fairly tightly structured very light khaki head dissipating quickly to a cap. This is a really vibrant, beautiful beer.
Nose isn’t assertive but is very intriguing. Up front, citric sourness dominates leading into wine layers, followed by wild and barrel dustiness. Soft bourbon tones come in as it warms, leading to moments of bourbon bubblegum late in each serving.
Taste is as exciting as the appearance - plenty of sourness, wild complexities swirl and open the senses up for a mild, creamy bourbon barrel finish that rolls along into the aftertaste and leaves a warming character in the gut. There is clearly two ends to the spectrum here below 60°, but they mesh beautifully and compliment each other exceptionally well. Alcohol is not present in the taste or mouth. Layers of bourbon are constantly revealed following the sour layer dissipating on the palette.
Overall, I love this. Very interesting. The bourbon barrel is such an awesome compliment to the wild sourness.
One year bottle pours burnt orange amber with a rim of khaki fizz. The aroma is funky and tart with some grainy sweetness. The flavor starts with a robust barrel note and warming grain but it quickly melds into a lemony tart sour with a very light Belgian must. It has a nice fitting sweetness that masks the intensity of the tartness and brings out some of the light fruitiness. It is low carbonation and finishes with a lingering tart citrus, light grapefruit and more so lemon, with smooth amber malts and a touch of barrel.
