COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak. 750ml bottle split with the wife celebrating the birth of our twins. We now have 3 love childs. A - Pours a murky with a small head. S - Smells sour, acidic lacto, mild dusty funk, sharp damp wood, sour orchard fruit, apples, berry tartness, some peppery notes, whiskey soaked wood. The aroma of old furniture woods comes out when warmed up. T - Puckering sour upfront, acidic fruit, unsweetened cranberry juice, tart cherries, apple skins, lemons, sharp salty cheese, a rounding whiskey and wood slowly sneaks out as it warms. The finish has a snappy pepperness to it, but closes crisp and clean. M - Sour with an acidic bite, mild effervescent carbonation that smooths out as it sets. This packs a pretty sour punch. The tartness puckers your taste buds, scrubs the palate bringing with it complex esters, leaving behind light whiskey and old wood. Very nice roundness with crisp and snappy finish. I wish I would have bought more. Serving type: bottle 01-11-2014

750 ml bottle opened a bit more than one year after “best before date”. Have sampled this a few times previously within the BFD, but IMO the storage have just made this beer even more fantastic. Slightly unclear reddish amber body with a stable, moderate sized, dense off-white head. Aroma is wonderful smooth and complex, acidic berries, fruit, barnyard, malt, wood, light caramel and some dry fruit. Flavor is like aroma, both smooth and complex with a wonderful balance between sweet, sour, fruit, wood and funk. Nice tart fruit, sweet malt, caramel, balanced bitterness and mild funk. Fine balanced body and long lasting aftertaste with the same wonderful flavor. One of the best beers I have tasted regardless style.

Bottle. BBY date 02/15. Pours a lovely ruby brown. Small initial head followed by a rush of fine bubbles to form a nice medium cappuccino colored head. Nose is vinous and woody. Mouthfeel is light to medium and effervescent. Taste is an explosion of fruit flavors-- tart cherry, lemon, plum, apricot, followed by oak, caramel, and a lingering, slightly boozy sourness in the finish. An exceptional brew.
