Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all?

Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak.

Soft reddish brown pour with a lite haze with one finger of short lived khaki tan head. Estery and acidic aroma, fruity, muted. Very very sour. Some fruit showing. Light bodied.

Nische (2437) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JAN 22, 2017
Bottle from SB from a couple of years back. Pours cloudy amber with quickly disappearing head. Tart aroma and taste of vinegar, overripe fruit, apple, red berries, lightly vinous. Perfect balance between sweet and sour with a slight bite to the sour finish. Lovely altogether.

drpimento (3736) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 28, 2016
Aroma isn’t too complex, pretty much just vinegaryeast. Flavor’s much better with fruit, spices, hint of perfume. A little alcohol warmth at the end of the Finish.

Riktigt gott.

luttonm (6657) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 16, 2016
Bottle in Seattle. Cloudy, mahogany. Small creamy foam. Lovely sweet sour, whiskey is solid and welcome. Rich, tasty, rising acidic sour. Whiskey and alcohol richness is a bit balancing for the heavy sour. I dig it.

I can’t remember the last time I poured a beer out. I love Boulevards beers but this was terrible. After reading other reviews, I am wondering if I had a bad bottle. All I know it it was like drinking vinager.

oldrtybastrd (5003) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2016
Pours a golden amber color w/ quick dissipating head. Aromas of vinegar, light fruit, and some barnyard. Tastes like lightly fruity easter egg dye with some horseblanket. Outstanding sour and tart!

keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - MAR 9, 2016
Appearance: Murky amber brown body with a creamy tan head.
Aroma: Passionfruit, papaya, whiskey, and chardonnay. Light oak with prominent tart cherry.
Taste: Moderate to high tart. Papaya and strawberry are prominent, whiskey is subdued. Finding some peach and orange as well. Boozy leaning finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Damn good beer, very complex and done well.
