Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Love Child No. 6 is composed of multiple vintages of a strong Belgian-style blonde ale that has been resting in wine barrels and stainless steel vessels. This release features soft lactic acidity punctuated with very slight acetic notes and a tart, fruity flavor.

Bottle. Pours clear orange, small off-white head, dissipates fairly slowly leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is oaky, funk, hints of caramel, lemon, peach, hints of acetone. Flavor is medium tart, light plus funk, lemon, stonefruit, buttery oak. Medium body, soft carbonation. Tasty. Can’t really believe its nearly 10% - doesn’t drink like it.

Bottle thanks to Potter. Pours a clear copper gold with medium white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak, leather, sour fruit. Medium body, leather, vinegar, oak, light acidity, good.

75 cl bottle from SB. Clear copper colored. Thin white head. Grapes, brett, funk, yeast, oakbarrels in aroma. Funky flavours, medium tart, cherries is coming in. Medium body, got a nice lingering aftertaste. A beer worthy for the last day of the year.

Starts sour, then gets sweet, then sour again, with a somewhat dry aftertaste. Tastes like sour apple, no harsh vinegar notes or anything. I like it.

750 mL bottle from Costco Charlottesville. Hazy copper, thin fizzy off-white head, fair retention. Aroma of lacto, peach, brett, toasted malts, citrus. The taste is tart peach, grapefruit, lacto, brett, pale malt. Medium bodied, strong lingering tartness.

Super crisp and clear peach and apricot coloured body with an orange glow and a thin, very-fast dying slightly off-white head. Aroma of sour grapes, cherries, fruit, brett, yeast and a good deal of sour funk, like a gueuze - very nice! Light-bodied; Strong funky flavour of yeast, brett, sour grapes, cherries, citrus ngy flavours and even a bit of grain noticeable along with some lighter alcohol, some touches of malt and a hint of oak and dryness. Aftertaste is very sour, funky and especially complex with fruit, yeast, vinegary and tart flavours and a bit of toffee and sweetness near the end. Overall, a very nice, complex, light and sour/funky beer with a ton of nice flavours and a rich complexity near the end. I wish I bought more of these to age for many years, but I’m guessing I won’t be able to find this easily! A definite purchase for anyone who enjoys anything sour or funky - this is a good treat. I sampled this 75 cL corked and caged bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 17-January-2016 for US$15,99 sampled at home in Washington in celebration of running the 26,2 miles of the USMC Marathon in 2016 with my wife.

Bottle 0.75l at Ratebeer Belgian Summer Gathering 2016 Evergem, Belgium. 03.09.2016. Thanks Klaas for hosting and RB guys for sharing today’s beers. Pour it hazy orange colour with no head. Aroma quite flat some brett on the back. Taste nice tart, some salty feel in the middle, woody just a pinch, cheery, smooth finish, lightly bitter, medium to heavy sourness, medium body, lively carbonation, long finish.

3/IX/16 - 75cl bottle from a trade, shared @ RBBSG V (Klaas’ place) - BB: X/2017 (2016-965) Thanks to Brian L. for the trade!

Hazy orange beer, small creamy irregular off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: floral, soft funky touch, pretty yeasty, smoky, bit of beat, bit fruity. MF: soft to no carbon, medium body. Taste: very sour start, lemony, some tannins, more lemon juice, bitter. Aftertaste: bit soapy, lemony, watery, bit fruity, pretty nice, but not as majestic as the label wants to make you believe.
