COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by our very first collaboration project, Noble Prize Imperial Pilsner is brewed using a starkly simple recipe combined with a painstakingly complex brewing process resulting in an imperial pilsner of subtle elegance and delicately balanced contrasts. A grain bill composed of 100% Pilsner malt makes a clear, yet restrained statement, answered by Saaz hop bitterness, echoes of which linger in the dry, crisp finish.

Pouring brilliant golden in color, Noble Prize opens with aromas of bready, honey-like malt sweetness with subtle floral and black pepper notes from the use of Saaz and Mandarina Bavaria hops. With the flavor of freshly baked bread, the 100% pilsner malt base provides a crisp platform to showcase spicy herbal and earthy noble hop tones provided by first wort and end of boil hopping. The delicate, simple malt bill and cooler than normal fermentation temperature, 49 F as opposed to 55 F for KC Pils, result in an incredibly balanced, complex beer born from an amazingly simple recipe.

At 7.5% ABV and 32 IBUs, Noble Prize Imperial Pilsner is an excellent partner to aromatic cheeses, chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce, hot chicken wings, shellfish, spicy tamales and steak au poivre.

Pours a hazy light golden yellow with a big white head of foam with good retention. Aroma is like a biscuit with honey with a hint of rose water. Taste is slightly sweet like honey and also doughy, with some moderate floral and spicy character in the finish. Alcohol is detectable but light. Mouthfeel is mostly crisp with a medium body and high carbonation. Not a fan of these imperial pilsners. I think I would much prefer this as a straight forward Pilsner at an appropriate ABV.

Bottle I got fizzed like a geyser, so look out! When I finally got a glassful, it was hazy amber with a thick and frothy porcelain head. Aroma features fresh malt and pomme character, typical but pleasing. Flavor ups all these a little, and adds some resiny hops. Mouthfeel presents good body and fair fizz. Noble, if not a prize.

This is a time when Lagers are no longer confined to their old formulas. They're getting more complex, fruitier, and of course, hoppier. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but it's nice to see that Boulevard did something more straightforward and traditional with Noble Prize. It's a straight-shooting setup: pils malt plus noble hops. Everything works exceptionally well, though. Gold color and a white head. Clean, grainy malt followed by grassy, floral, and spicy hops. Malt is sweet without becoming cloying. The hops are bitter and crisp, but they don't interfere with what's classic about this beer. That's basically what Noble Prize is, a retelling of German brewing traditions. It's simple but highly nuanced.

Aromas of fresh cut bananas, lemon juice, butterscotch, bubbly carbonation, pilsner malts, golden malts, orange peel, fruity yeast esters, peach skin and metallic malts. Pours a lively gold with an absurd amount of carbonated foam on top. Taste follows nose with fresh banana smoothie, lemon cream pie, whip cream, cracker malt, biscuit, crisp lager yeast, coriander, fresh mango juice, peach juice, pilsner malts, golden malts, light herbal hops and a distinct metallic flavor akin to most pilsners. Finishes somewhat dry with residual cracker and peach skin. Overall, surprisingly refreshing. The amount of foam I got alarmed me but the carbonation is by no means overbearing.

Bottle. Hazy golden body. Huge pillowy white head, lasting (almost to the point of being obnoxious). Aroma of toasted grain, lemon, citrus, lemon, grass, bread. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of alcohol, lingering grapefruit bitterness. Orange and citrus.
