Pours a murky red/brown, small white head. Aroma is malty, with a kick or hops. Flavor is spicy, malt, brown sugar, astringent palate. A nice brew. Thanks to Heemer. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - DEC 1, 2003
(Bottle) Pours a dark amber color with a thin head. Rich aroma and a smooth taste of toffee, carmel, cinnamon, and nutmeg. bender (293) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2004
Hazy, red-brown body with a tan head. No lacing.Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - MAR 29, 2004
Malt and sweetness dominate the aroma. Fruity. Some alcohol.
Carmelized malt with some cinnamon dominate the flavor. Some plum/raisin hints.
Rich and full mouthfeel but with a stripping finish of alcohol.
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2007 Dark cloudy red with all of the stuff that you like in a holiday ale. Spicy pepper, chocolate, light citrus, bitter hops and sweet malty finish. joet (2604) - Wilsonville, Oregon, USA - AUG 17, 2004
Very creamy, lightly sour, hops besting the light carmel malts, resinous especially on the surface, light brown color, nut, spice (nutmeg?) and nuts. fadé?

2004 Edition. Cloudy but flat-looking, like a cider. Sour cherry notes with another soapy aroma with the hoppiness. Tasting adds some pine and peppery spice to those presences. Palate is sharp at first, but diminishes wihtout souring. Not my favorite winter warmer and low IBUs. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - AUG 1, 2005
Poured brown with a hint of red. Aroma and flavor of sugar, hops and some pepper. Seemed kind of odd after the previous beers I had. Semi-dry bitterness for the finish. Need to try on it’s own to be fair. millstadtguy (50) - Millstadt, Illinois, USA - NOV 24, 2006
Pours dark brown with a decent head. Aroma of pine & hops. Flavor starts out with carmel malt, quickly followed by a sharp hop & pine taste. I liked last years version better but still not bad. luckygirl (1223) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 14, 2007
Bottled. Best before 2/1/7. Beer is cloudy, medium-brown. Head is initially average, off-white, frothy. Diminishing.

Aroma is lightly malty with notes of toasted grain and bread crust, trace flickering hints of coffee and molasses; Hoppy with a heavy note of resin/pine, light herbal note; Yeasty with a light note of basement.

The flavor is moderately-to-heavily bittersweet, lightly acidic with a long, moderately bittersweet finish. Rubbing alcohol in the finish and retros

The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. valpoaj (742) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - FEB 3, 2007
Muddy brown pour produced little head. Nice malty aroma with a very hoppy initial flavor. Extended finish leaves a creamy bready flavor behind. Not a wonderful beer, but good on occasion
