COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Situated at opposite ends of the California Trail, pioneering breweries Sierra Nevada and Boulevard have embarked upon a journey into the unknown, to a land where adventures in brewing and flavor await. Terra Incognita is, fittingly, an earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of the two locations. Beginning with Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown pale malt, and combined with amber malt, wheat, and malted wheat, it is then assertively hopped with Bravo and Styrian Goldings, dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, and finally barrel aged with Brettanomyces in Missouri oak.
Originally brewed at Boulevard and released exclusively on draft at SAVOR Fest 2012. Batch 2 was brewed at Boulevard and re-released to the general public in bottles on 6-18-13.

Batch 1 bottle. Pours a cloudy brown amber with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is funk, wood, dark fruit, and wheat. Medium mouth with sweet malt, raisin, light funk, good.

Bottle. Highly carbonated, with two inches of sandy tan head. Deep chocolate brown hue. Smells like the inside of a stone church. Slightly musty, like granite. The flavor is similar -- minerally, with a slight funk. Maybe a little too subtle.

3.9
Dogbrick (13961) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 14, 2015
This beer pours a dark amber color with a medium thick light beige head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, vine fruits and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of mildly funky fruit, vinous oak, earthy malt and mild hops. The finish is dark fruits and oak with a funky yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a small, slightly off white head. Aroma is of chocolate, molasses, dates, sap, some woody barrel, light funky notes. Taste has lots going on, caramel, chocolate, soil, barrel, wood, light boozy notes, dried fruits, subtle funky almost plastic brett notes. Aroma was eh, but the taste more than makes up for that.

Bottle, corked and caged, from Pear Delicatessen & Shoppe, Seattle
Dark brown color with generous compact head. The aroma is very bready, and moderately sour. Good body strength; the flavor is muddled, a bit funky and Bretty, too much wood, too much yeast.
Good, but very dirty.

It poured a brown color with a big brown head. The aroma was of bourbon, chocolate, sugar, lemon and dried fruit. The taste was sour with notes of sugar, fruits, lemons and some barnyard. It had a medium body with medium to high carbonation. Tasty.

750ml bottle in a teku. Pours dark brown with a big, lacy, beige head. Aroma of light Brett, some caramel malts with sort of a toasted note, light oak, hints of floral hops, and light notes of fruits. Flavor the same with a decent blend. Average texture, lots of carbonation. A decent beer, better than I expected, but still a little off.

HoppyBudgie (940) - SOLA, NORWAY - FEB 21, 2015
Brown pour, light tan head. Aroma has leather, funk, wet hay, ripe fruit. Flavor is leather, lightly tart, some funk and earthy/dusty flavors. Nice light sour. Cellared 1,5 year.

4.3
rajendra82 (1105) - Alpharetta, Georgia, USA - FEB 20, 2015
The deep burgundy colored body was not highly carbonated, and the one finger thick head was short lived. The smell was very wine like, with sour, fruity, woody aromas dominating the nose, and this was backed by a rose like floral aromas. The taste was that of raisins up front, with a followup of cherry. There were some hints of chocolate and toffee in the finish. The aftertaste was oak, vanilla, and a touch of banana. The body of the beer was a little thin and the feel slick. A nice creation, but a bit pricey for the quality.

3.7
berlinoise2go (689) - NORWAY - FEB 14, 2015
Bottle (75cl) from Vinmonopolet, Oslo. Dark mahogany colour. Huge, light beige head, slowly cracking up, leaving thick lacing and a stable foam island. Aroma of malt, forest fruit, barnyard, almonds, bitter orange. Medium body, average/soft carbonation. Taste is malty-acidic, lightly tart, nicely balanced by a fruity sweetness, but appears somewhat restrained.
