Boulevard / Sierra Nevada Terra Incognita (Batch 1 & 2)

RATINGS: 324   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.56/5   SEASONAL: Special   EST. CALORIES: 255   ABV: 8.5%
Situated at opposite ends of the California Trail, pioneering breweries Sierra Nevada and Boulevard have embarked upon a journey into the unknown, to a land where adventures in brewing and flavor await. Terra Incognita is, fittingly, an earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of the two locations. Beginning with Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown pale malt, and combined with amber malt, wheat, and malted wheat, it is then assertively hopped with Bravo and Styrian Goldings, dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, and finally barrel aged with Brettanomyces in Missouri oak.
Originally brewed at Boulevard and released exclusively on draft at SAVOR Fest 2012. Batch 2 was brewed at Boulevard and re-released to the general public in bottles on 6-18-13.

Love this style. Brown amber type of sour barn peach plum funk. Lightly carbonated, very vinous just a great wonderful flavored brew. Hop they make more collab stuff of the two breweries.

Bottle - Soured dark malts with a hint of cherry. Dark jet brown with a light brown head. Light tart dark malts with some cherry notes and a dark burnt chocolate finish.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of brett, dark soured fruits, oak, and light vinegar. Flavour is quite complex, with the brett showcasing front and centre, oak barrels, dark soured fruits, and wood. Complex, woody, bretty and only light tart. Great stuff.

Dark brown with a lot of carbonation and a thick slow fading pillowy head. Nose of bourbon, some vanilla, wet oak. Bitter dark roast malts and tart finish. Don’t think this is what it was supposed to be...

BeerdedDave (2094) - Beckley, USA - JAN 21, 2015
dark brown color with a decent head; aroma is rather complex - mostly dark fruit and wine; complex, earthy flavor: dark fruit and caramel malts with notes of red wine and oak and maybe just hints of bourbon; well balanced; bitter, fruity finish

Dark brown maybe some red in there. Tastes of red wine, cherry, dark fruit, very earthy hops, a little spice, darker malts and a little bread crust. Variety of hop flavors, citrus, earth, pine. Medium body. Very refreshing brew and very aromatic.

Luvystypotables (2136) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - DEC 7, 2014
Aroma of bourbon and alcohol, pours a dark brown with a short tan head. Phenolic slightly sour taste of spoiled fruit. Medium body with a sour finish.
