4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 c&c from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a 5 finger foamy/frothy tan head. Aroma (through lots of head) is sour and dark. Med + body. Flavor is dark malt, wood and some seriously sour fruit. This is not vinegar sour. It’s dark fruit bretty. No cherry here. Apparently no fruit of any kind here, but I guess it’s the Goldings. When the foam is gone the aroma is quite earthy/sour, and the flavor generates a hint of chocolate - but it finishes earthy/sour. Mouth fatigue means not so sour as the start, but sour. This is a rather elegant ale, and if popular wines were earthy, this would be a fitting alternative. Ain’t the way of the world. tho.
(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with big, frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, vanilla, toffee, wood, crisp-bread and spices (nutmeg, cinnamon). Malty, spicy taste with caramel, dried fruit, crisp-bread, prunes, bourbon, wood, some coffee, spices and a finish with a balanced spicy bitterness and a light acidity shining through. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and quite interesting, with both oak and some brett coming through. Nice one. Sigmund (7759) - Tau, NORWAY - JUN 30, 2017

Pours a deep dark brown with a crazy thick head, not even a vigorous pour and chilled more than it should have been! Everything is complex, aroma has peppery spiciness and pecan pie wrapped in a bready envelope. Flavor is similar, piling on layers of vanilla leather caramel and cola (perhaps an effect of the carbonation), just a bit of funk. Semi-dry and almost salty. Good beer.
