12oz bottle, Black pour with a nice lacing tan head. Dark roasted malt nose mixed with dark fruits. Unique Belgian yeast flavors upfront. A molassas sweet full bodied roasty and dark fruit taste. Some background chocolate. Nice mellow dry and bitter finish with a little burn.

This is fantastic stuff! Love the dark pour and slight foam head---smell of high alcohol but the flavor is very smooth! Very rich and is better tasting than a certain "limited release" bourbon barrel aged stout from Chi-town

Dark brown almost black with a small dense brown head. Aroma is hints of ash, licorice, coffee, hints of cocoa, moist tobacco and soy. Taste is light to medium sweet, bitter roasted and light salty. Finish is bitter, salty and light sweet with soy, licorice, coffee earth and ash. Medium bodied, quite creamy with a light dry finish, soft carbonation.
Good, but a bit on the salty side.

Im not really sure why American brewers feel the need to ferment non-Belgian beer styles with Belgian yeast. In case of Boulevard Dark Truth Stout an imperial stout fermented with the stuff the result is rather negligible since the yeast character has little effect on the finished product. This is an excellent, classic, and all-around impressive and delicious brew Belgian yeast or not.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It was bottled on 8/13/15 and cost $3.79 ($0.32 per ounce).

Appearance: Inky black body thats virtually opaque. Pours to a fairly large, brown, foamy head which retains and laces very well.

Smell: Dark chocolate almost syrupy. Plenty of dark fruit as well, though its almost assuredly the yeast esters. Alcohol is noticeable, but blends well with the nose.

Taste: When I think imperial stout, I think of a palette just like the one here. Theres a lot going on: its both sweet and remarkably bitter. Strong dark chocolate flavors throughout; akin to German cake. Roasted malt is prominent as well and it helps bridge the gap between the sweet dark maltiness and the fairly intense bitterness that emerges on the apex. Theres a slightly burnt toast flavor, though more of a spicy bitterness likely due to the hops. On the finish I get a lovely dark fruit sensation as only then does the Belgian yeast become apparent in the palette. The alcohol adds a light vanilla sensation and is not distracting at all.

Drinkability: I had reservations about Boulevard Dark Truth Stout considering its a pretty potent brew at 9.7% ABV. Thankfully, it is not a beast at all as the alcohol lingers in the background and is only noticeable as a warming sensation in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is plenty full-bodied, though not quite the sticky sensation found in other imperial stouts. Theres a nice aftertaste of bitter dark chocolate which is rather pleasant.

Bottle from fonefan, many thanks: Aroma is round and roasty, dark chocolate, dark fruits, cocoa powder. Black colour, brownish creamy head. Flavour is full bodied with an intensive roastiness, bitter chocolate, cocoa roastiness, dark fruits, plums, light alcohol notes, rum, light roasty bitterness. Light dry, cocoa finish, light bitterness, roasty. Very good.

Poured a jet black with a fine foamy tan head. Nose is full of malt, caramel sweetness. Had a huge roasted palate full of char. Tart, rounded with a sugared smoothness.

Bottle from Total Wine, North Miami, Florida, USA. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige creamy head on top. Sweet, roasty, malty, vanilla aroma. Tastes similar, sweet, roasty, malty, vanilla, caramel, hint of chocolate. A quite superb Imperial Stout.
