COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Purchased 12 oz. bottle from Top Cellars Wine and Spirits in Olathe, KS with a "best by" date of 11/9/14 and served in an English pint glass. Pours black but clear, not murky; produces a very large frothy dark tan head. As carbonation dissipates, head turns much creamier and eventually rocky with a very long duration and good lacing. The nose is moderately malty with chocolate and a toasted smell. Also able to pick up light citrusy hops with just a tinge of a medicinal odor. Overall very pleasant. Initial roasted chocolatey flavor is moderate, slightly sweet but not too strong from a pour this dark. Finish starts sweet but ends up dry with a slight smokey taste. Body is fairly full with a nice creamy mouthfeel and smooth finish in the throat with just a slight bit of alcohol. Although the beer is very carbonated when first poured, the carbonation quickly leaves and it becomes fairly still and almost flat, similar to a draught stout. Overall a great beer.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2017 12oz bottled 8/14/2017 9.7% ABV 60 IBU poured into pilsner glass pitch black with full hand-width beige head which slowly fades as beer warms to room temperature and leaves no lacing on the glass. The nose is cherries, licorice, leather and tobacco over bed of hops. Chewy head with tastes of creamy malts, cherries and molasses. Maybe slight coffee and chocolate, but overpowered by hops. No hint of alcohol on the pallet. The head on this beer is epic!

12 oz bottle. Pour a very dark brown with moderate head. Aromas nutty chocolate icing, roasted malts and a little dark fruit. Flavors follow same with licorice, plum skin and burnt coffee. Interesting fruity/herbal notes that make it distinctive

Located this 12 oz bottle in the Ft. Worth area while attending a wedding some months ago and held until now. Boulevard Brewing has developed into one of favorite brewers and I expect no less from their imperial stout. Dispensed into my New Belgium .47 liter tulip glass it shows the expected black body along with a healthy, finely-bubbled tan foam. Taking a smell I get cherry, raisin and milk chocolate. A drink gives tobacco, a stiff maltiness, black cherry, mahogany. Quite nice and decent. Just that there are better.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, spicy Belgian yeast, molasses, touch of dark fruit and some liquorice. Flavour is above medium sweet with a decent roasty bitterness in the finish. Rather Belgian, dark malt and dried dark fruits with chocolate. Good one.

Bottle. Pours black with a huge sticky off-white head that dissipates to one inch leaving substantial lacing on the glass. Aromas of cocoa, cola, vanilla, toffee and molasses. Flavors are dark chocolate, cola, bready tones, hints of dark fruit, a bit of molasses, toffee and vanilla. Noticeable alcohol warmth. Clean, but slightly sticky mouthfeel. Really, very nice.

Hyvin tumma lasissa jättäen ruskean vaahdon. Tuoksussa tummaa hedelmäisyyttä, ehkä viikunaa. Maku on täyteläinen, joskin alkoholikin puskee taustalta. Käytetty hieman hapotusta, joten ei mene tunkkaisuuden puolelle.

Bottle from Boulevard Beer Hall. Pours black with a khaki head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Lots of coffee and chocolate notes on the nose and tongue. Hides its booze well. Fairly rich mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Poured from 12 fl oz bottle (22 Nov 2018). Black with tan head. Chocolate, roast malt, liquorice, light leather, mild alcohol burn. Good, though a little bit harsh finish, but quite memorable never-the-less.
