COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a large beige head. Aroma of liquorice, caramel. Flavour is caramel, roasted malt. More of a Black DIPA than a regular Black IPA.

75cl corked bottle from Rayans at cellar temp shared with ck1. Batch number 2012-3. Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Some drops of lace. Aroma has tremendous grassy hops with black patent malts. Exciting . Taste is of spicy grains, sweet toffee, some bittersweet butterscotch. Needed to be colder probably. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly bitter and very dry. A touch disappointing after the aroma. About in line with typical Boulevard offerings.

more from the smoke stack series. dark black with heavy light tan head. Aroma hits with grapefruit at first and a little mango. Taste is a soft maltiness with rye spice. slight smell and taste of being in a woodshop as i roll it in my mouth. Even bitter comes though. Besides the dark color I dont get a lot of roast chocolate malt. More a really good rye IPA

Bottle shared at The Dubliner, may 24th 2013. Black body, big tanned head. Hoppy aroma, exotic fruits, grass, spicy. Taste of grapefruit, chocolate, roasted malt and rye in a delicious blend. Not quite as fruit hoppy as many black ipas, but a really good example of the style still.

Huge beige head. Barely translucent deep dark red body. Roasty resiny tropical fruit aroma with earthy funky notes. Dry-sweet funky tropical fruit taste with roasty earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Sharp, fizzy mouthfeel. Dryish tropical fruit and roasted malts aftertaste with resiny dusty chocolatey notes. Quite good, but the flavours don’t quite mix, and too fizzy and funky. (0.75l bottle, from Systembolaget, Nordstan.)

Bottle at home. Has a black colour with a medium light beige soapy head. Very IPA-like aroma with fruity hops, grapefruit and some soy sauce in the background. Has a rich taste with a distinct hoppy touch. Slick mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. A well-balanced Black IPA but more a rich IPA than a stout. Not much roastedness in this.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Brown. Small white head. Citric hoppy aroma. Lots of flavour on the palet with balanced bitterness that lasts. Over all a great beer with great balance between malts and hops.

Deep murky brown in the glass. Big offwhite head. Alot of hops in the nose, alongside a roasty maltet aroma. Rich mouthfeel with alot of carbonation. Roasty and sweet taste, medium bitter. It?s well over a year old, so probably not as bitter as it?s ?supposed to be?.

Black and malty, but more interesting than most in this category. Do I really need to write 75 characters? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle .75. Black. Initial nose is very hoppy, all-american cascady- like. Pines with green lime citrus backing. Then the chocolate roastyness kicks in. Body is full, bitter, soft creamy. Piney hops, dark roasted maltyness. The roasted flavors are a bit thin compared to the hoppyness though. The finish is more pines than the roasted dry chocolate that’s also there. There’s some darker soft maltyness that could be the rye, but hard to say. Overall a good black IPA. But I’m still waiting for someone to perfect the style and somehow set the standard. This was (for the abv) a bit on the thinner, hoppyer, side.
