Dark brown with a large tan head. The aroma has some rye and pine notes. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of rye and pine, as well as some biscuit malt and roasted malt. Fairly bitter overall. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Beerenberger (1605) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAR 31, 2013
The nose is grapefruit and pine with notes of malt. Pours a Coka-Cola brown with a large mostly lasting tan head and some sticky lacing. The taste is much like the aroma. Grapefruit, some pine, hints of malt, rye pepperiness, and a grainy aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, a mellow black IPA which is very drinkable. zebra (2138) - Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2013
super tasty. glad i bought a second bottle by mistake. and, it set a new record for distance flown by the cork when popped. another home run from boulevard! umich03jm (3513) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - MAR 30, 2013
750 ml bottle from trade with michaelinwa. Pours pitch black with a huge foamy head that fades obnoxiously slow, leaves minor lacing. Aroma is a bit faint but I love it. Spicy with rye and black pepper, some roasted coffee, flowers, and some burnt wood. Taste is delicious and more complex than the aroma. So many tastes including rye bread, black pepper, coffee, pine, citrus, chocolate, flowers, burnt wood, grass, and tropical fruit. Finish is smooth and creamy, black pepper and floral aftertaste. A tad thin on the mouthfeel but it’s still very creamy and a little oily too. One of the better black IPA’s I’ve had. Thanks Mike! wxman (1820) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a dark opaque brown/black with a light tan head. Aroma is pine resin. Taste is sweet roasted malt, pine and citrus. Some coffee breaks through in the background. Well balanced and pretty good, but for truth in advertising purposes it should have been called Hop Storm. I didn’t taste much grain.

Yep, another winner from Boulevard. Pours very dark brown with a large dense tan head. The aroma has very floral hops, pine, grapefruit zest, somewhat sweet malt, but plenty of hops to offset that sweetness. It has a medium body with lots of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with pine, earth, peppery spice, mild fruit, non-bitter coffee notes, spicy rye and fairly sweet malt. The finish has a bright citrus character, pine and minor roast. Really well done. notalush (5875) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 29, 2013
Black pour with a frothy off white lace that shrinks to a considerable lace - nose of pine, resin, and grass melds well with the mild spiciness of the rye and the lightly bitter baker’s chocolate of the darker malts - very soft carbonation - lovely texture in the mouth - light notes of anise, bitter chocolate, light woodiness, a very light touch of smoke - finish has a nose balance of mild sweetness and lightly peppery hops - this is an excellent beer - ranks right up there with wookie jack among the best black ipas on the market. northropfrye (3601) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 29, 2013
Black body, with nice head and lacing. Taste is citrus bitter resin. A quality black IPA. RobertDale (6474) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - MAR 27, 2013
