COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Good blend. Decent roasted and hoppy aroma. Dark coffee brown color with a slightly tan head. Medium weight with strong carbonation. It had a nice blend of flavors consisting of roasted malts, spicy rye and bittering hops. It had some piney and floral hop notes as well. It’s finished somewhat dry. A beer to definitely try.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Light rye, dark malt, grassy and herbal aromas. Grassy and earthy with light herbal hop aromas, some rye and malt flavors.

Pours dark brown to black with a fair khaki head, leaving some intricate lace. Nose involves pine, olives, dark chocolate, and toast. Somewhat sweet, quite bitter. Light to medium body, astringent, somewhat oily, fairly active, with a toasty bitter finish. Not bad, but a little overwhelming in some ways, unbalanced.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2014 Nice pour, but overall taste and palate was less. Would try again. The sweetness was a bit overpowering for a lighter beer.

A great black IPA. Great aromas of earth, fresh pine needles. Beautiful black pour... With fluffy tan head and lacing. Flavors are earthy coffee and fresh hops. A touch thin on the palate but otherwise a great beer.

Big bottle from Elevated. Black in color. Frothy, steady head. Aroma is hoppy but understated. A nice hop bitterness with a really good rye addition. A near earthy middle followed up by an enjoyable finish. Bitter but palatable. Another solid performance from this brewery.

More reddish brown than black. Very prominent citrus and rye spice. Medium body with lots of rye flavor. Hops show up in the finish. Marginal compared with others.

On tap at Après Handcrafted Libations in Breckenridge. Pour is deep brown with a small cream head and great lacing. Big hoppy, spicy, grapefruity, orange peel, weedy, and roasty aroma. Taste is fresh grassy, grapefruit peel, grass, light toast, weed, and bread with a big bitter finish. Medium body with medium-to-soft carbonation. Nice black IPA.

Pours dark brown color with a thick bubbly head. An aroma of oats and nuts. A light palate but surprisingly very complex flavor for not being heavy. Very sweet earthy taste. A delight!
