COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

6/24/2014. 750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Dark brown color with a tan head. Pine, citrus and roasted malt aromas. Bitter right off with lots of malt, spice and hop flavors.

Pours a finger of tan head on a black body. The aroma is a solid burnt wood, molasses, roasted malt and lemon. Nice. The taste is grainy all over, burnt and roasted malt, mild lemon bitterness and finishes with a little honey sweetness. Nice balance. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. Very enjoyable. The malt takes a front seat to the hops.

Draft sample. Black in colour with medium carbonation. Classic C-hops upfront in the nose, along with cut grass and toasted and roasted malts. Malt notes come through much stronger in the mouth, with both pale malt and spicy rye playing a strong roll. Some white grapefruit notes on the back end. Slick on the palate, but with a solid amount of bitterness. Good overall.

Bomber shared. Poured a dark brown but translucent enough. Off white long lasting head. Medium lacing. Aroma is roasted mslts with a solid hop base and rye spiciness. The flavor is straight up is hop forward. Very nice bitterness. Love the underlying rye spiciness gives it a whole new dimension. Overall another solid offering from boulevard.

Near black garnet tinted brown pour with a tall (huge nearly explosive pour), fluffy tan head that has great retention. Aroma of citrus, toast and nuts, fruity notes, spicy earthy rye and nice grainy notes. Flavor is full of toasty grain up front, rye and oats make pretty noticeable appearances, nutty notes, some roast, bitter rye, grapefruit, light pine and spicy hops seem Amarillo-ish. Heavy, full body with the creamy, slightly gooey feel of a beer with lots of oats, light, somewhat sharp, blanketing carbonation. Good stuff, a little on the thick side for my taste, but it works pretty well.

Bottle at GBBF thanks to Colin. Pours a dark reddy brown with an off white head. Aroma has grass, lemon, toffee, treacle. Fairly dry with light woody resin, lemon, pine, light choc, caramel, light coffee. Lovely balance and really tasty.

750ml bottle. Dark brown with a big foamy head. Aroma of cocoa, pine, citrus, rye and coffee. Flavor is dry cocoa, bitter hops, light roasty ash and no alcohol. Medium body with a long, dry, bitter finish. Really nice Black IPA, lots of dry cocoa, hops and very well balanced. Only problem is the price on this, $15.

Bottle. Pours a brown black with a very carbonated khaki sudsy head that lasts and lasts. Aroma has pine spruce and chocolate malt and subtle rye scents. Taste is bitter pine hops and rye with a chocolate roasted malt that smooths everything out quite nice. Palate is medium fizzy and dry. Good one!

rarbring (2294) - Linköping, SWEDEN - APR 20, 2013
Aroma: Smelling of bread, pine, resin and soap.
Appearance: A clouded black colored beer. A tan head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting sweet dark bread, pine and grape-fruit peel. Some licorice.
Palate: Low carbonation, a soft texture. A good body with a long dry finish.
Overall: A clever BIPA, smells IPA, tastes half stout, half IPA.
Note: Bottle 650 ml at a De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2013-04-20.
