COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Dark brown with ruby highlights, insanely huge khaki head with great retention and good lacing. Aromas of grass and grain with a bit of rye spiciness. Taste follows nose with grassy notes, wet grain and rye bread. Decent amount of bitterness that is balanced by the spiciness and finishes rather dry. Mouthfeel is slick and medium bodied with average carbonation. Good beer that showcases the grain and has a nice rye element. ---Jeremy H

(Bottle) Black colour, with hints of ruby through the light. Frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, hoppy nose with coffee, roasted malt, liquorice, grapefruit, caramel, pine needles, hints of mint and blueberries. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, blueberries, pine needles, mint, grapefruit, dark bread and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made black IPA with blueberries, mint and piney hops. Very nice.

Pours near black with reddish hue on the edges - absurdly robust and resistant head that seems to gain depth with time (seriously, had to discard some, else Id still be waiting to try it an hour later). Aroma is a balance of sweet and bittering hops...mildly resinous, spicy (peppery), yeasty - interesting stuff. Flavor is solid with the balance of sweet malts up front quickly getting slapped aside from the bittering hops...slight citrus note along with a good dose of roast and spice. Palate is medium bodied - one could argue thin for the flavor. Very nice offering...
