Dark brown with ruby highlights, insanely huge khaki head with great retention and good lacing. Aromas of grass and grain with a bit of rye spiciness. Taste follows nose with grassy notes, wet grain and rye bread. Decent amount of bitterness that is balanced by the spiciness and finishes rather dry. Mouthfeel is slick and medium bodied with average carbonation. Good beer that showcases the grain and has a nice rye element.
750 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 7.7%. Dark reddish brown colour, huge beige head. Lovely malty aroma, mild roasty notes, hints of dark berries, also fruity and piney hops. The flavour is slightly on the sweet side, with moderate roast malts and fruity and piney hops. Medium bitter finish. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JAN 2, 2017
Treated as an imperial version, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a black color with a good finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Moderate stringy to speckled lace.
The aroma takes in some sweet barley/oatiness rubbing against some spicy rye. Sly blueberries dive in underneath. Roasty coffee beans and some roasted cocoa beans.
The flavor blends the sweetness of the barley to the oatiness and brings the spiciness of the rye to glide in for a really nice balance. Cocoa and coffee portions are there but fairly low. Moderate semi-sweet to roasty balance in the aftertaste leading on into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Moderate carbonation feels good on my tongue.
Overall, imperial black IPA hitting all of the right spots and rounding out very nicely. Of course, I’d have this again. Svesse (8577) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - NOV 18, 2016
(Bottle) Black colour, with hints of ruby through the light. Frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, hoppy nose with coffee, roasted malt, liquorice, grapefruit, caramel, pine needles, hints of mint and blueberries. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, blueberries, pine needles, mint, grapefruit, dark bread and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made black IPA with blueberries, mint and piney hops. Very nice. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 24, 2016
