Bottle: Pours a very dark brown with a medium frothy tan head that is fully lasting. Sweet malty aroma has a burst of rye and pine with grain notes. Malty flavor is sweet and roasty with hints of grapefruit and fruit notes. Has a creamy texture with a spicy mouthfeel and a mild bitterness in the finish. Delicious! arnold931 (1263) - Iowa, USA - APR 9, 2014
Tap at Bricks. Pours dark brown. Nice lacing. Nose is all grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit. Nice bitter aftertaste. thomas15 (689) - Alabama, USA - FEB 5, 2013
Bottle, released today. Aroma is spicy citrus. Beige head with dark brown/ black body. Head is ample. Very different flavor for style. Slight chocolate up front followed quickly by citrus and a spicy rye finish. The body is lighter for style, something I like a lot. Comes off as more of an iPa that happens to be black. Very good.

Pours black with huge, dense khaki head that reduces but never really goes away and leaves a nice film lacing. The aroma has very strong grapefruit and citrus hops notes. The taste followed the aroma with great grapefruit IPA flavor with some roasted malt and rye in the background. It has a pretty strong bitter finish. I is full bodied and thick with some light carbonation. jrob21 (3684) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - FEB 15, 2013
The v-day present from the wife this year. She knows exactly what I like. Ipas of any sort. Pours a decent black with red hue. Nice lacing. Pineapple aroma with some pungent citrus coming through. Nice rye peppery bite to the flavor with a faint toasty grain working behind the scenes. Finish is peppery spice and grapefruit bitterness. All working together really well. radarsock (1192) - Massachusetts, USA - FEB 15, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2013 750mL bottle bottle purchased from Leary’s for $9.80. Shared with my sister and our old high school friend, Troy. Pours a rubyish deep brown with which sustained sudsy tan head. Supremely awesome lace. Aromas of rye flour, American yeast, tapioca, dried black plums, shiitake mushrooms, honeydew melons, saké kasu, soy milk, and Grains of Paradise. Tastes of rye malt, American hops, pine needles, caraway seeds, parsnips, and chamomile. An explosion of farmhouse yeast, dark chocolate and sunflower seeds by swallow. De-lic-ious. 750ml bottle from Binny’s Lincoln Park. Batch #2012-3, Best By 08-2013. Pours a black body with just a slight reddish hue. Inch thick, dense, foamy and frothy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is loaded with pineapple and grapefruit citruses as well as a nicely balanced roast and rye spice. A lightly sweetened, crackery and somewhat bready malt backing holds everything together while allowing the hops, rye, and roast to stay prominent and dry. Flavor is similar. Citrusy pineapples and grapefruits up front with a slight juiciness, but not overly so because of the pleasant, dry rye spiciness. Lots of florals and citruses remain throughout while a nice, balanced roast mixes very well with the rye. Crackery, bready, lightly sweetened malts with just a slight caramel note keep everything in check before this finishes dry, citrusy, roasty, somewhat spicy, and pretty smooth with a moderate bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a somewhat lively, medium-high carbonation. Overall, this was pretty awesome. Tons of citrusy hops balanced with a nice rye spice and pleasant roastiness. Dry, but fairly smooth and very easy to drink throughout. Another great Smokestack release from Blvd. tylermgaddis (16) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Pours a nice blackish brown, slight red hues. Smells piney! Taste slightly of coffee, yet spicy from the rye, yet bitter from the hops. Really confusing thanks to that midnight wheat, but really, really good. Luckily I gots three mo!
