COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, the classic Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high levels of alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from the Scottish yeast. To add extra complexity and depth, this Imperial Stout is made up of a blend of freshly brewed beer and several barrel-aged beers, carefully balanced. Za Vas!

Bottle 2011, courtesy of plovmand. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate and dark fruit with notes of whiskey; oak, tar, smoke. The flavours starts very sweet but finish slightly bitter. Lingering roasted taste. The body is full and the texture is oily. Soft carbonation. A nice warmth of alcohol. Nice one...

Bottle. 2011 edition. It pours opaque black with a firm dense beige head. Huge sweet roasted aroma with lots of oak and vanilla notes. Chocolate and ripe dark fruit. Some oxidation in the flavor but extremely tasty notes of chocolate, vanilla and oak. Roasted malts and prunes. Yes!

Deep inky opaque brown, minimal dark tan head. Deep strong chocolate, quite a bit of alcohol, some flat earthiness. Milk sweetness. Lightly bitter, long sweet finish. Heavy, oily body. Very long finish. Good.

Very nice flavor with unique character. You don't notice the alcohol content so it goes down smooth. Good malt character and not hoppy or bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle, 2013 vintage, 11.8% abv. Pours very dark, with good carbonation and a nice tan head. Aroma of whiskey and malts. Taste is rich and complex. Notes of a good imperial...malts, wood aged. I think the stout almost seems more like it was aged in wine barrels than whiskey barrels, but the flavor is still very good. Thumbs up for sure!

On tap. Dark chocolate, lots of plums, figs, raisins, some coffee, some earth. Firm mouthfeel, with elegant carbonation and high viscosity. Tremendous under the palate! Fruity sweet, chocolatey sweet, roasty bitter. Again, plums. A hint of pepper. A splash of EtOH, but delicately so. Definitely on the sweet side, but it is fruity and involved, every sip being more interesting than the previous one. Outstanding and immensely satisfactory.
