Nice beer. You could definitely smell and taste the anise. Molasses maybe too. There is an unusual flavor lurking, earthy/vegetably I’m not sure if that worked for or against it. In the end this is pretty good. A big hit with the better half. Serving: Bottle
A generalized brown with small tan head. Aroma molasses, malt, dried fruit. Medium body. Flavor is mostly sweet malts and purple dried fruit and there’s a kind of toasty dryness as well. Not bad. Leighton (21089) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 18, 2015
Bottle shared in Canaan, NH. Vintage 2011. Pours clear amber-brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has some toast bread, creamy caramel, burnt leaves. Medium to heavy sweet flavor, some ripening berries, mild alcohol, leaves, toffee. Medium to full bodied with average massaging carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, some burnt grains, earth, toffee. Good stuff. jcnielsen (3403) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 19, 2015
Bottle, vintage 2011. Pours a cloudy dark brown color with white head. Plums, belgian yeast, raisins, caramel, dark fruit aromas. Dark fruit, malty, molasses, brown sugar flavors. A touch of oxidized cardboard, but generally held up pretty good. kevinator (2176) - The Colony, Texas, USA - MAR 1, 2015
Found an old bottle and it held up well. Bready aroma with spices like cinnamon and coriander. Normal brown color for the style but this had a good amount of debris, which I attribute to the age on the bottle. Solid flavors of bread, cinnamon, clove and other spice from the yeast. Bottle, shared with friends at game night. Hazy medium "nut" brown with a lively beige head. Very nice aroma of estery yeast, raisins and caramel. The palate delivers the same, nice brown sugars, raisins, hints of spice. Very nice dubbel.

Rated on 02-04-2012. (Corked and caged bottle, Batch Number/2011-2, Best By Date: 04-2012) When poured, this beer’s appearance is a medium sized frothy, very fizzy beige head that mostly diminishes, hazy reddish brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, yeast. sweet, bananas, spicy, clove, and cinnamon. The flavor is sweet, caramel malt, spicy, cinnamon, and coriander. The mouthfeel of this beer is tingly carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. This is a very quaffable beer and the various flavors come together very well. This beer has a cinnamon aftertaste and this beer is worth trying. Beergeek23322 (2602) - Chester, Virginia, USA - MAR 5, 2014
3/6/2014. 750ml. bottle. Pours dark amber with a white head. Aromas of dried fruit, brown sugar, molasses and caramel. Light spicy flavors with a nice sweetness. Good balance. Thewade (340) - USA - MAR 3, 2014
Hard to rate considering bottle was 3.5 years old. It actually stands up pretty well. Molasses was subtle, and very little oxidation occurred from what I could tell. Nice brew. boxofrane (2553) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours murky brown with a medium sized brownish head. The aroma has brown sugar, cinnamon, some licorice, and maybe a bit of banana. The taste has some drk fruit, a lot of brown sugar, a bit of banana, and slight spiciness. Solid. jzzbassman (1619) - Arlington, Texas, USA - DEC 7, 2013
