aroma is bourbon, some roasted malts. flavor is sweet, super boozy and bitter. some bite at the end for sure. pours light orange with a white head. had a draft at jerrys. great beer, but it followed a phenomenal beer. ANZUShophunter (446) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUL 10, 2016
2015 bottle in tulip glass. Pours hazy amber with significant head and aroma of whiskey breaking through. A big, boozy beer that might be classed a barley wine if it weren’t made from rye. Sweeter than I was expecting but it takes a lot of sugar to get to 12% abv. The alcohol and whiskey finish help to dry things out. DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 7, 2016
750 cc from Capone’s. Poured hazy, rusty brown with off-white head. Nose was intense oaky whiskey, rye, hops. Tasted rich, intense, somewhat hot, dry, with big notes of rye, oak, whiskey, and tannins. Solid and huge beer. lightbias (453) - USA - JUL 6, 2016
Once, I had a rye beer. And then I was hooked. The pour is odd; cloudy as hell, impenetrable and filled with sediment. The nut brown liquid is capped with three fingers of a foamy tan head. - The aroma is whiskey and oak, caramel and mild malt. The chill on the glass makes me think that I should take my time to let it warm for more of an experience. - It works...the warmth of time brings a deeper aroma, the vanilla and caramel bursting over my tongue, the whiskey warming my mouth, and filling it with beautiful, tangy rye. The taste is lightly bitter, and serves as a foundation for the sweet layer of whiskey. - A beauty of a flavor wrapped in a deliciously quaffable 12%, this is a beer I’m looking for again. Next time, no review...next time, I’ll take my time and savor every drop. chinchill (4993) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 9, 2016
On tap at the 2016 NCBMF.
This is a strong ale, as is immediately apparent upon tasting. The flavor is just plain boozy, although I don’t find this objectionable in this particular beer. The aroma suggests a less powerful beer.
Lightly sweet and limited spicing from the rye.

Pours hazy dark copper color with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and oak. Sweet caramel and toffee flavors with bourbon, vanilla, and oak. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. RickTheRick (949) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 1, 2016
Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy head. Aromas of bourbon, malts, citrus hops. Flavors of light malt, booze and some sweetness RSRIZZO (1986) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - APR 16, 2016
750ml corked and caged bottle from the 2013 release (Courtesy of Headbanger). I poured it into a Snifter at 43°. Color is a burnt orange with good carbonation and a small off white head. There are just a couple of floaties hanging about in the first pour. Aroma is whiskey, oak and a slight sweetness. It has a medium body with a very smooth mouth feel. Flavor is surprisingly light coming in with some malt and rye, then the whiskey shows along with oak and vanilla. After taste is clean giving a mild bitterness as the oak lingers and a hint of the alcohol shows. Overall I love it, light yet very complex and easy to drink, maybe a little too easy for a brew with 12% ABV. wilnatp (692) - Minnesota, USA - APR 3, 2016
Limited notes. 2015 bottle. Pour was lovely and smooth palate. Great balance and wonderful rye notes.
