"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours a hazy reddish brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma is wonderful and everything I wanted - lightly roasted malt - deep and nutty. Very light alcohol aroma. Flavor is amazing - medium body with lots of sweet toast. Feels full and pleasant on the palate. Fantastic beer - glad I grabbed 2 bottles.

This beer reminded me quite a bit of Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel. Not quite as good as my favorite beer, Rochefort 10, but still quite good and will definitely get again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I won’t make to the Sixth Glass...high ABV though not highly detectable. A bit cloudy, copper appearance. A little sweet...no bitter, laces nicely. Bit of a bite at the end...clean though and as I stated not a bit of bitterness. A good quad.

Bottle to glass - Pours a tinted bronze, very light beige head, resilient. Aroma is sour apple, apricot, raisin a little it of funky grass. Kind of creamy on the tongue, sweet, perhaps too sweet and boozy. Apples, fresh spice (clove, coriander), some green banana. Not bad, may have overpursued success on this one though.

Pours dark copper with a creamy off-white head that dissipates to a lacy ring. Aromas of alcohol, clove and dark fruit. Flavors are dark fruit, bready notes, grass, clove, raisin. Bready and sweet. A bit boozy. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, but also peppery and lively. Delicious.
