COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, its a revival of the classic Belgian wit, or white beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, its a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes.

Cloudy orange - gold beer. Big fluffy white head. Light dry palate. Dry seltzer minerals and wheaty malt. Sharp sherbet orange with a trace of lemon. Finishes seltzerish and dry. Tasty wheat, just a bit too dry.

Battle courtesy of CaptainCougar at DCs first tasting of 2010. Golden color with a tiny head and slight lacing. Lots of citrus, pepper and other spice in the aroma and flavor. OK, but not well balanced.

A: Really a great looking pour. Hazed orange in color with a massive white head. S: Not the most witbier of aromas to me. Lots of citrus peel, but it has a lemony note to it as well as some grapefruit. Orange is there, too, however. Some nice bready malts, but not much wheat and only a bit of spice. T: The spice and citrus combination on the flavor is quite interesting. Almost like a spiced cider. Big sweet apple flavor along with oranges, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. M: Medium in body with a medium to high carbonation. O: Not sure if Id necessarily call this a Witbier, but it was good.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2012 750mL bottle, split 3 ways, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma of lavender and coriander upfront, clove, floral notes, yeast. Flavour is heavy on lavender, coriander, citrus, yeast, banana and some sweet notes - alcohol is slightly noticeable. Full-bodied for the style and doesnt suffer from the weak, citric, watery qualities in many white beers. Very enjoyable.
