Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Great color. Typical quad start with a big alcohol flavor . Some subtle bourbon notes. Slightly bitter finish. Overall a good Belgian. A little strong for some ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I am a fan of Sixth Glass already. Let us see if Bourbon Barrel Quad keeps that going. I obtained a single 12 oz. bottle in Burleson, TX at a local supermarket, very fortunate. I open the bottle and pour about half into my New Belgium snifter. The liquid is dark brown with red highlights. The head is a full, finely bubbled, off-white, almost tan, foam. The scent, I am not quite sure, significant on the liquor end of things. Not bad, just not expected. I trust the taste will be a kick up. A drink, well hell yes, much better. Significantly better than the nose, I still get the bourbon on top of the ale. There is an oak woodiness, malt, a caramel sweetness, a touch of the cherries apparently. The 11,8% abv is looking around the corner at me. Very unique, very grown up, I appreciate that. I determine little of a quad in there but that is all right. I take it for what it is. So I like Sixth Glass a lot, this is just different. Impressive.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear brown with light head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, toasted malts and raisins. Flavors follow same with dry toffee, subtle fruit, and more oak. Nice

bottle, rated around last January - Pours dark amber. Smells very malty with dark fruit, bourbon, and Belgian yeast. Flavor is sweet and malty with cherry notes and bourbon that comes through but isn't overpowering. Full bodied. Very good.

11.2floz bottle, BBD 07.14.2019, 11.2% ABV, $4 single, tulip glass. Cherries, Belgian yeast, bourbon aromas - check. Dark amber in color with a good, appropriate amount of head - check. Essences of cough syrup, bourbon, and husky grain flavors take on predominance at different points while drinking. Fizziness is quite evident on the first few sips, but settles to lighten a body that is full of rigor. Pretty good, but it's a mish mash that doesn't come together evenly for my tastes to be anything great.

Bottle from total wine and more, sarasota. Reddish brown color, white head. Aroma has barrel notes, oak, cherry notes. Nice balanced oaky taste, cherry notes. Alcohol pushes a little bit but not disturbing.

Smooth quad with a strong alcoholic finish. Sweet smell, full body complex taste with the warmness of cider and booze. High alcohol beer you can with pastry or pie

12 oz. bottle. Pour was light brown with a large foamy off white head. Lots of floaties held in suspension, as if they were in a jello. Aroma of bourbon, brown sugar, spice, raisin, fig. Taste was light sweet, bourbon, plum, cherry liquor.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a cup. Hazy medium brown with small beige head. Aroma is bourbon, medium body, medium carbonation, and small-bubble lacing. Taste is bourbon, barrel, and booze.

Poured from bottle.
AROMA - bourbon and waffles with maple syrup.
APPEARANCE - mahogany with tan head.
TASTE - bourbon and oak flavors come through in a big way. Also dark honey, maple syrup, alcohol (glad I shared this), toffee, caramel, butterscotch.
PALATE- full, heavy, boozy.
OVERALL - I would definitely buy again.
