Boulevard Smokestack Series: Harvest Dance Wheat Wine

RATINGS: 428   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.68/5   SEASONAL: Series   IBU: 42   EST. CALORIES: 285   ABV: 9.5%
Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John Barleycorn’s cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes.

750ml - Sweet malty aroma with wheat, subtle citrus hops and a touch of oak. Flavor is full of wheat and malt with a sweet wine like finish. Also some hops and oak. Palate is dry and sticky. Interesting and pretty good.

03.08.2016, 0,75l bottle @ home:
Big fizzy-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is mild fruity, dried fruits, bubblegum, minerals, citrus, yeast, grass, banana, almond, alcohol, oak, old cellar. Taste is slightly sour-ish boozy, weeds, citrus peel, alcohol, grass, minerals, bark, yeast, flowers, paper. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Clear orange-hued golden body with some tiny particles floating around, big bubbly white head. Nose is wheat, white sugar, dried fruits, banana and hints of peaches, straw and raisins. Taste is red fruits, nuts, straw, white sugar, alcohol and hints of banana, wood and alcohol. Medium body, high carbonation. A bit boozy for the relatively low ABV; unorthodox flavor profile. Pretty decent, but not fantastic.

0.75l corked bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This one pours a good looking dark golden colored body, filled with small floaters and particles floating about in the glass and a tall really lacing and lasting off-white head. Like the aroma it’s somewhat on the sweeter side. Soft traces of banana, it’s nice and sweet fruity. A little closed in at first perhaps, canned sweet pear. Some white candied sugar and Belgian yeast. Like it. It’s a little above average on the carbonation and it has a good almost cloudy feeling in the mouth. Mild sweetish flavors also, again it’s somewhat Belgian in the taste also. Stings you a little with the clear alcohol, but I don’t find it disturbing. Kinda suits it. Yeah, I liked this. 04.08.2016

It pours dark golden with a fluffy slightly off white head. It has aromas of citrus highlighted by orange, a wheat profile with citrus fruit, vinous (white wine), and oak aromas. There are tropical fruit flavors, wheat, vinous (white wine) and oak. The combination of flavors is very complex and works well together. It has a chewy feel, not as heavy as traditional as expected. It has alcohol warming with a dry finish. Overall, it is a unique favorable beer complex in aromas and tastes that is slow drinking and quite tasty.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A golden beer, mostly clear, but with some micro floaties. Off-white finger thick head. The aromais on the fruity side, with white sugar, some grass and hay. There’s a decent bitterness in the mouth, it’s full-bodied and nicely carbonated, with some grass and hay in the mostly fruity flavor. Some white sugar too, but not in a sweet way. Lasting fruity finish. More of a tripel than a wheat wine this one. A decent one though. 160102

Bottle, june 27th 2015. Dark golden body with an evolving white head. Aroma is wheaty, alcohol, mild fruity. Spices and herbs. Taste of yeast esters, notably banana, clove, bubble gum, mild sweet with a light malt character, a nice mild sourness kicks in cleaning up for a drier fruity finish. Quite a nice one this.
