Pale golden in color, this rye ale is rightly dark and almost murky in appearance. The nose isnt very appealing, with just a touch of dirty, but plain, rye. The flavor is somewhat bright, but muddy on the palate, with a mostly undecorated bouquet. I expected better for some reason, but its actually very pleasant for the style.

This poured a cloudy gold color with a white head. Nose citrus hops and the rye .Medium plus in body. Flavor is grassy, floral, and citrus hops, and the rye works well here. Bitter rye finish. Well crafted beer.

Rye beers are intriguing but also odd. Their peppery taste can be excellent or overbearing. Boulevard is known for crafting some masterful beers with rye. Though good, Westside Rye is certainly not an example of mastery. The beer has a dark copper appearance and little head. The aroma is subdued but reasonably complex. Wheat malts create a sweet smell that hints at clove. Theres also a slightly toasted malt aroma with a touch of spice from the rye. Sadly, the flavor doesnt have as much to offer. Theres a pleasant sharpness from the rye and a smooth graininess from the other malts, but the end result is underwhelming. All the same, this beer benefits from its balance and refreshing feel. Nothing amazing but its not a beer you regret having.

Not usually a fan of this type of ale. Smell and colour wasnt particularly remarkable but this was a very drinkable ale. I would definitely drink this if i seen it in a bar.

At my place with Taylor after a long busy season work week. Pours burly maroon brown. Aroma is huge rye and rough earthy hops. Taste is rough harsh hops.
