COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong ale or "Winter Warmer" with dark red-brown color and a very rich malty flavor. Dry-hopped lightly with Cascades for a pleasant aroma and slightly spicy hop finish. This big beer is deceptively strong, yet tastes very smooth thanks to extra long cold conditioning.Original Gravity: 1.072

Sampled at Backus’ Backyard Bash. Clear brown with a thin beige head. Caramel and toffee nose, a bit roasty. Malty flavor, kinda weak, not much carbo, feels dead. This didn’t do it for me. Meh.

Pours a deep reddish brown with an off white head. Aroma of caramel and hop. Hop flavor predominates the coffee malt flavor. More bitter in the finish.

Nice sweet vanilla aroma. Taste is malty enough, but came off kind of chemically. Balanced bitterness. Finish was funky and off. I was expecting more, oh well.

Dark brown rich looking body but the flavour was a little thin. Nice aroma of spruce. Soome flavour, cocoa, in the malts and a smooth finish.

ACHops (1639) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 25, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2013 22 oz bottle. Pours a murky amber brown with a thin creamy head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and solid bourbon notes. Taste is rich lightly roasted malts with nice earthy hop flavors and delicious bourbon on the finish. I don’t think this was barrel-aged, but it’s definitely there. Bottle is maybe 6 months old, so who knows. Hard to believe this is only 7%, tastes bigger. One of the best NW winter beers, and that’s saying something. Would love to see a version of this cranked up to imperial range.

22 oz bottle - ruby brown with off white head; strong and thick malt aromas mixed in with spices and hops; rich and smooth texture that’s not too spicy and comes to a clean finish; decent

Pours dark brown, big tan head Smell sweet, nutty, candy and toffee, bit of caramel Taste sweet, light roast and spice, close to a scotch ale but a bit more hop presence Light to mid body, drinks smooth for 7% Good
