This brew pours with a muddy brown body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with a slight caramel note, a touch of alcohol and a little dark fruit. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness and a little hops, as well as, a little sourness. Medium bodied, slightly dry and a touch warming. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Malty aroma with hints of vanilla, caramel and spices. Medium bodied with flavours of raisins, caramel and a malty sweetness. After the sweetness subsides there’s some nuttiness and some hops and alcohol. The sweetness in the body is a bit too much for me, and the finish is a bit too boozy. Draft - Toasty, nice sweetness and a touch of spice. Cloudy brown with a nice light brown head. Cocoa, toast and some spice with a light boozy finish. Chocolate, candy and light bitterness are also there. A decent winter warmer. slowrunner77 (12043) - Reno, Nevada, USA - FEB 14, 2017

Dark amber colour. Slightly chocolatey, minty, sprucy aroma - none used, though. A little bit thin. Accent is towards toffeeish, slightly chocolatey malt notes.
Poursa cloudy golden brown with with a halo of a tan head. Aroams of spice, honey and a little mustard seeed. Flavor is slightly bitter with a sweet , light finish. Fairly dissaointing. porterdude (170) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - NOV 30, 2005
On tap. Pours a dark brown and so murky light does not escape. A thin off white head floats for a few minutes and then quickly disappears. There is an aroma of sweet caramel, wood, and viney hops. A flavor (sorta)explosion of thick sweet caramel and a slight off roast flavor. This beer has a pretty cloying body, but otherwise its not that interesting. robforbes (2242) - Bremerton, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2010
pours a semi-cloudy dark brown with a red tint, a very small tan head, and good lacing.
smell is faint, some spice, some malt, and a touch of caramel.
taste is thick, nutty, spice, toffee, peanut butter in the back, and malt, ends on the oily side. hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 26, 2008
Bottle... Backus’s Backdoor Bash ‘08... Clear, deep amber ale with a mid-sized, fluffy, khaki head. Good retention. Earthy, toffee and caramel nose. Medium to full-bodied with a nice, silky mouthfeel and nearly-expired carbonation. Not much going on, flavor-wise. A layer of sweetness teases my tongue, but doesn’t really deliver on the promise of full, malty flavor. Finishes mildly sweet and lightly bitter. mcberko (17825) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 5, 2010
Sampled on tap at Boundary Bay Brewpub, pours dark amber. Aroma of caramel malts, X-mas spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.) and vanilla. Flavour of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and light fruits. A slightly thin palate. Decent.
