Pours a transparent bright copper with a spotty, thin off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramely malt has a touch of light fruity esters. Body has some drier alcoholic notes and semi-sweet caramel maltiness toward a warming finish. Needs more sweet malty balance to hide the alcohol better.

IndianaRed (4629) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAY 18, 2017
On Tap at the Bellingham brewpub. Deep redish mahogany, thin fine tan head. Nice caramelized malt aroma, very little hop notes. Flavor is big time caramel and brown sugar, good ABV burn and a smooth not too heavy body. Barley bittered enough, tastes aged and mellow. Delicious.

On tap. Pours brown with very light head. Aromas of candi sugar, grass and toasted malts. Flavors of sweet malts, dusty brown sugar, grass and copper. Nice.

Draft at Boundary Bay. Clearish amber/copper, thinnish foam. Tart alcohol and amber sweetness. complex, well constructed, amaretto, cognac. Lovely barleywine!

Easily the best BB beer I had yesterday. Very british - tawny, smooth, rich. Lots of orchard fruit flavours, caramel, marmalade, toffee. Soft but luxurios bitterness in the finish. Would age well.

Bottle from the brewery, winter 2012/2013, 9.6% ABV
Dark amber color, hazy, with medium sized head, short lived. Malt aroma, caramel, mild; some paint thinner; more was expected. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; nice malt flavor, sweet, but not heavy as other Barley Wines; correct bitterness level, less than other American Barley Wines; the hop provides a light fruity touch too; warming alcohol feeling in the end.
Good balance; sweet and fruity Barley Wine, lean feeling.

22-ounce bomber: Delicious, wholesome and pleasant barley wine. Murky deep amber. Fruity-sweet nose. Full-bodied texture. Wholesome flavors of caramel, nuts, wood and dark bread. Perfect amount of sweetness at its core. Bold yet round and smooth hops -- grassy, earthy and herbal. Touch of umami. Balanced hop bitterness is aided by a soothing amount of alcohol. Good sipper.

Bottled 650ml (PBF, alc. 9.6%)
Nut brown color, small off-white head. Ryeish, caramelly, malty aroma. Full-bodied. Caramel, rye, sherry, some tickling alcohol. Liquerish palate. Probably few years old bottle. Quite nice, a bit Bigfoot-like big American barley wine.

oh6gdx (26488) - Vasa, FINLAND - JUL 3, 2011
Bottled (thanks after4ever!). Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is raisins, toffee, some alcohol, mild nutty and wooden notes as well. Flavour is ripe fruits, toffee, mild spices as welol as sweet malts and a slight burn of alcoohol.

BillKismet (4064) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 26, 2011
August maroon-cider body with creamy burnt beige top. Luscious aroma full of medium crystal malts and dollops of fruitiness, punctuated by juicy pineapple bursts. Candi apple body, sweet like ice wine and with a powerful presence of candi malt and overripe fruit character. Wet hoppiness with juicy, fruity, sweet tea finish.

Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 1, 2010
Bomber courtesy of bvc pours clear sparkling deep copper with thin off white head. The aroma has firm muted nearly moldy grapefruit, mild yet assertive citrus hops, pine, a mild level of spicy hops and a touch of floral. The taste has loads of various hops with smooth spicy hops, pine, floral, grapefruit and tangelo. Beneath all those hops is a thin layer of caramel and sweet maltiness. Great balance, great smoothness and a great American Style Barleywine. Thanks Boundary Bay!
