BlackHaddock (8073) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - OCT 18, 2017
330ml bottle: BB 1st Feb 2019. Obtained from Chez Sophie in Shrewsbury. Drank at home on 18th Oct 2017, fourth beer in a Dark Beer tasting session. Poured into a Forbidden Fruit chalice, looked awesome, deep, rich tanned head, black body. Malty, malty and malty, it's malty with strong malty aromas and flavours. Dissecting the maltiness into different aromas and tastes is difficult because they all interact with each other: is there chocolate, yes, is there coffee, yes, is there smokiness, no (good). Really liked this, good alcohol kick and plenty to test your senses with both the nose and mouth.

drjoeng (1481) - SINGAPORE - JUL 22, 2017
7%ABV. Stout. Poured out black. 40SRM. Nose has coffee, burnt sugar, liniment and hint of stale pee. Mouthfeel is carbonated and almost soda water like. Palate has hint of peat smoke which gives its flavors of turpentine, gasoline, plasticine, candle wax. There is a nice fruity front that suggests stone fruit jam, maybe fresh dates. Also very carbonated. Almost gets in the way of properly enjoying this ale. The predominant flavor in this stout is smoke, not char or caramelization as is usually the case, but smoke which makes me think this might have also been entered as a smoked ale instead of a stout. The smoke is tobacco smoke, stale cigarettes, mouthfeel after two cigars...ashtray. Finish is brief and smoky...what else.

Towey1989 (3517) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 27, 2017
Bottle at Beerdock Leek. A deep brown colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisin, some chocolate, slight liquorice, a little coffee and subtle vanilla. Taste of dark fruits, roasted malts, some treacle, slight chocolate, a little liquorice and sour berries. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, spiced fruit bitterness in the finish. A spicy, fruity stout, doesn’t taste its strength. Ok.
