Formerly known as Vanilla Porter. Renamed in 2009.
Dark brown in colour, with a subtle vanilla aroma. The vanilla sweetness contrasts nicely with the slight bitterness from the roasted barley and chocolate malts

Half pint, cask. Drinking with Craig at Cloisters Bar in Edinburgh. Black with a dark-brown tint. Bubbly ring to the rim of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts with a touch of anise. Burnt earthy malts joined by vanilla sweetness in flavour. Rounded ending by bittering malts. Likable, 29.11.2010.

Half Litre bottle, poured into Pint Shaker. A: Very dark auburn colour, slight red around the edges. Small tanned head, poor retention, didn't leave much lacing. S: Fudge and vanilla. T: Dark high cocoa chocolate, fudge and some vanilla, lingering bitter finish. M: Medium to heavy body, smooth, low carbonation. O: More bitter than other porters, decent character for the strength.

500ml dark bottle, filtered, from Tesco. Part of a four local ales for £6 deal. Vanilla is a big part of the flavour and character of this soft dark beer. It’s drinkable, but just too much vanilla and too much of a lack of anything else to really grab my attention. Drinkable, but not hugely enjoyable.

The beer has got a deep black colour with a steady low head and medium body. Aroma of malt and roast. Taste of malt, roast, woods, torf, coffee and bitter chocolate. Hints of nuts.

Zlotta (3731) - Hagen / Düsseldorf, GERMANY - AUG 19, 2017
0.5 l bottle from local ’LIDL’, bottled in June 2017. Clear, very dark reddish brown to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, light beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut. Rather sweet, malty, slightly roasty taste of milk chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and some coffee, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, quite earthy-dry finish. Medium body, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Overall decent, quite good for the price though!

500ml bottle from Lidl - Clear dark ruby to brown body, no head. Nose has a gentle coffee to it, subtle (i.e weak) vanilla and chocolate notes at the back. Stronger in the vanilla in the taste, some chocolate and some bitter yeastiness there too. Okay, but a bit thin.

Craftakt (134) - Hannover, Lower Saxony, GERMANY - AUG 9, 2017

0,5 l bottle for 0,99 € at Lidl Germany. Not really black in the glass, more than one finger creamy beige head. Smell has a lot of choco, vanilla and some malt. Some increasing dark malt into the taste. Some hints like fresh Polaris hop. Expected a little bit more deepness but not bad at all.
