bottle from select n save. they have the whole range there so i bought a few on special. pours muddy brown with a tan head, no lacing. smells of malts, faint coffee. flavour is pretty thin. coffee, burnt toast, choco, not much else going on. not one of my favs. absolutely shite label art tombyars (1724) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 15, 2016
Tasted this in the Three Judges, Glasgow on the 7th November 2016. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby in colour with a thin tan head. Malty in the aroma with notes of old leather and roast grain coming through. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malt complex gives a thin moist maltloaf base with treacle and Pontefract cake flavours long in the mouth. Chewy hop prickle gives a slight cereal note to the light bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty with plump bramble fruit and treacle notes slightly dry in the palate. This is a good session stout and well recommended.
