COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.

Once called Red Dragon the famous pint of Dark has always been synonymous with Brains particularly in Cardiff with the dock-workers of old, the male voice choirs and with rugby fans down in the Arms Park. Nowadays its popularity has expanded and is the biggest selling dark mild in Wales, continually winning awards both nationally and internationally.
’Dark’ is treacle-coloured with a creamy contrasting head. A velvety smooth pint, Dark has a combination of chocolate, crystal and brown malts providing a clean palate with hints of liquorice and freshly ground coffee.

Cask-conditioned and tried on several occasions. Near black with tight, off-white head. Pleasant mild with a pronounced chocolate edge and touch of roast in the finish. Good.

Draft @ The Wellington, Brecon. Black with a very small head. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts with a hint of chocolate and liquorice. Very creamy mouthfeel but watery. Smooth. Low carbonation. All in all a very mild taste experience but what else to expect from a Mild? Nice and super duper sessionable.

A classic dark mild, it’s difficult to find outside Cardiff city centre, but worth sampling if you can find it.

Cask at The Goat Major. Pours dark brown/creamy beige head. Aroma seems darkly fruity; mild/smooth dark malt. Near med body. Flavor is aroma plus, perhaps, a light touch of chocolate. Finishes less than dry with detectable hop bitter. Very nice flavor.

Cask (PBF2015, Saturday) (6:4:6:4-:12-=3.2--)
Black tea, tarry burnt caramel, and blackberry aroma. Dark, ruby tints. Small tight tan head. Soft palate, carbonation low. Rich caramelly burnt body. Easy drinker, but almost keggy in feel.

Really enjoyed the bottled version, so when I saw the Brain’s Brewery Bar at the Peterborough Beer Festival on 26th Aug 2015 I tried a half-pint of the cask one. Very pleasant, dark brown with a good head on the hand-pulled beer. Malty and semi-sweet in nature this is a true classic Mild in my eyes and I really enjoyed my half.
