Once called Red Dragon the famous pint of Dark has always been synonymous with Brains particularly in Cardiff with the dock-workers of old, the male voice choirs and with rugby fans down in the Arms Park. Nowadays its popularity has expanded and it is the biggest selling dark milk in Wales, continually winning awards both nationally and internationally.
‘Dark’ is treacle-coloured with a creamy contrasting head and brewed using chocolate malt, providing a clean palate with hints of liquorice and fresh ground coffee.
The intense flavour of Brains Dark goes well with pork and chocolate puddings.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Max & Stas. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, toast, nuts, caramel, a bit of vegetables. Sweeetish flavor, toasty, slightly roasty, with nuts, caramel, and a drier finish with a bitterish note. Light to medium-bodied.

Aroma: Medium rich chocolate sauce. Medium-light dried fruits. Appearance: Very dark brown with ruby highlights. Small, light-brown head with low retention. Flavour: Medium-high roasty, coffee. Medium-light chocolate. Light grapes. Medium bitterness. Dry finish with lingering roastiness/bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Great beer. Quite roasty. 500 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Andre! 11A. Mild

Bose is lactose, hazelnut, milk chocolate, cram and vanilla - sounds nicer than it is. Taste is very muted, very light chocolate as the dominating tone, with a light raisin and nut leading to lactose with a slightly acidic cardboard finish which detracts. Mouthfeel is fine but too carbonated. Not particularly nice, I need to try it on cask.

Absolutely black with an ugly covering of greyish head. There are aromas of stale caramels, dodgy chocolates and maybe a hint of cola nut. This is replicated in the flavour with a body that was surprisingly astringent. There was a lingering impression of boiled tar and disappointment. Ah well. Yeah, nah.

From 2010 file notes. Brown pour. Sweet malt aroma. Tastes chocolate and dark malt. Liked it.

Bottle sample at home from ocado. Dark brwon / reddy coloured pour with a fleeting cream head. Aroma is faint roast, malts, dark fruiits, raisin. Flavour is semi rich figs and raisin with a little sharpness. Nice roast roast and choc malts round it out. Palate is medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Gorgeous dark colour with a cheeky chocolate aroma. Malty taste and a bit sharp. A bit fizzier than expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown body with a medium brown head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, nuts, some burnt sugar. Taste is medium sweet and bitter. Texture is creamy but feels light as well from the carbonation. Body is medium. Light bitter finish.
