Once called Red Dragon the famous pint of Dark has always been synonymous with Brains particularly in Cardiff with the dock-workers of old, the male voice choirs and with rugby fans down in the Arms Park. Nowadays its popularity has expanded and it is the biggest selling dark milk in Wales, continually winning awards both nationally and internationally.
‘Dark’ is treacle-coloured with a creamy contrasting head and brewed using chocolate malt, providing a clean palate with hints of liquorice and fresh ground coffee.
The intense flavour of Brains Dark goes well with pork and chocolate puddings.

Dark brown body with a medium brown head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, nuts, some burnt sugar. Taste is medium sweet and bitter. Texture is creamy but feels light as well from the carbonation. Body is medium. Light bitter finish.

Bottle from Tesco, Penarth on 21.08. Deep red / mahogany colour with coarse but stable ivory coloured head. Aroma is roasted coffee and some fruit. Taste adds chocolate and raisins. Some hop bitterness at the end and slightly astringent. Drinkable and interesting beer.

Hyvät elementit on veistetty vetisiksi. puolinaseva, mutta ei oikein. Hölkän jälkeen aivan jees.

500ml bottle from a random shop. Deep black with a medium slightly grey? head. Aroma has mild roasted malts, and some oats. Flavour has good roasted malts, some cola, and a bit of chocolate.

Rune (13508) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JUN 1, 2014
500ml bottle shared with Finn. Rocky beige head, fine duration. Near clear dark brown with ruby highlights. Spotty lacework. Well roasted dark malty aroma. Blended flavours of brown and black malts added by a touch of prunes. Roasted ending. Medium to thin bodied. Smooth on the swallow. A nice mild, indeed (at Finns in Tromsø 27.05.2014).

This is great. Different to the cask. This has a thick head and an aroma of dark fruits: prune, dates. Flavour includes a good dash of chocolate, coffee and roast malts. It opens up into dark fruit flavours and some malts. It’s a brilliant beer in bottle.

Flaske 0,5l fra Kilpishalli. Delt med Rune under rateseanse på Nerstranda 27 Mai 14.Svart. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Litt lacing. God aroma av nøtter med innslag av bær. Smaken det samme men med tilføyelse av karamell. Svakt røstet ettersmak. Utmerket dessertøl.

TET (3208) - Kaarina, FINLAND - MAR 22, 2014
A colablack, nicely poured beer with a medium and light brown head. The nose of dark malts, only slightly roasted, some sweetness. Taste is dryer than aroma, dry and roasted, some dark malts, coffee and herbs, hint of chocolate. Almost medium bodied, nice and smooth to drink. Simple but balanced, dry and roasted beer. Surprisingly good.
