SA Gold is a full-flavoured, hoppy and refreshing golden ale, brewed at the home of the famous Brains SA in Wales. Careful use of Target hops creates a satisfying bitterness, perfectly balanced by vibrant citrus aromas and complex hop flavours from late-hopping using Cascade and Styrian Goldings. Pours golden-amber, with a very thin foam head. Aromas of cereals, honey and a hint of citrus. Some metallic notes. Not very intense nose. Very refreshing but carbonation is too artificial, fizzy. Taste is great.

Bottle (500ml from Londis, Newcastle):
Biscuit like hops and some light malts along with an earthy hop aroma and a sweet, clean smell that is slightly yeasty but quite light overall and a touch skunky.
Light golden colour as the name would suggest and topped with a large, creamy looking head to begin with before turning bubbly white head that has pretty good retention and only slowly reduces in size over the course of a few minutes.
Light and malty with some sweetness and a nice helping of hops following this as well as a slightly biscuit and some grassy hops. Nothing too exciting but a solid and enjoyable taste and one that was fairly easy to drink.
Smooth and medium bodied with a malty, earthy base and low carbonation with a very slightly dry finish.

Standard fair for a golden ale, a little more malty than usual perhaps but nothing out of character for the style and nothing to exciting but still an interesting enough beer and one that is worth a try.

Bottle. A clear, dark golden beer with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is bisctuity malty, with resiny, citrusy hops and some toffee-like hints. It’s a bit heavy on the carbonation, dry and medium bodied, with flavors of bitterness, biscuity malts and citrus peel. Rather bitter finish. A beer that doesn’t impress me in any way, but it’s sure drinkable. 120623
