Clear deep amber beer, tidy pale cream coloured head. Bit of an odd nose - milky and sour! Palate is light and airy and a little dry. Slightly sour dry fruits with mild dry nuts. Light bitterness before a dry finish. Not convinced this is right, but it’s a pasteurised bottle. Odd!
Bottled. Coppery brown colour with a mediumsized off-white foamy head. Aroma is floral, grassy, mild caramelly and nutty notes. Flavour is bitter hops, some fruity and caramelly notes along with mild resin and wood. Still rather mild and actually watery for being this strong. Bottled 330ml Alko. Deep nut brown color, small beige head. Nutty, malty aroma with hints of caramel. Medium-bodied. Nutty, some caramel, alcohol (rhum?) and lingering spicey bitterness in the aftertaste. Quite classical UK strong ale with robust malt profile. FatPhil (17491) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAY 3, 2013
330ml bottle (Sivu Kirjasto, Helsinki)
Nice well toasted bread aroma. Some forrest mushrooms. Nice rich red, clear, are you sure this is BC? Small head, but tight and beige. Almost watery in the mouth, a little sweet, but that just fills out the body, like Owd Rodger, for example. A hint of salty butter. Nice dry bitter hops in the finish, some dry tobacco asects, and massivelly over-stewed tea. Really not a bad beer, but could have been so much more. Firstly, this feels dead, I really don’t believe the BC on the label. Reduce the sugar, improve the integration of malt and hop, and this would be great. Love the rich dark malts, but this is less than it could have been.
