Aroma is caramel, honey, vanilla beans , rich brandy sweetness and sour apples. Taste is fresh sweet citrus fruits, caramel, honey, and vanilla. The sweet brandy notes paired with the fresh first-filled oakiness accents this beer wonderfully. Appearance is a clear gold with a thin pearl had that retains OK. Sampled at ACBF 2017, Vichte. Murky amber pour with a thin beige head. Notes of brandy, dried fruit, figs, caramelized apples, toffee. Smooth texture, low carbonation. A very nice barley wine. Travlr (24913) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAR 9, 2017
Sample at ACBF 2017. Cloudy amber color. Soft vanilla and brandy aroma. Taste is smooth caramel and liquor. Very tasty. Alengrin (5382) - BELGIUM - MAR 6, 2017
Brandy barrel aged Fred, sampled at ACBF. Egg-white, very thin and quickly dissipating head, hazy orange blonde with warm amberish hue, a tad darker than the regular. Rich bouquet of orange zest, dried mango, sweet white wine, cognac, wet oak, fermented pineapple, biscuit. Sweet onset with lots of residual sugars, fruity with a sourish touch, soft carbo, thick, fluffy and bit vinous, opulent mouthfeel, lovely caramelly and biscuity malt sweet core, long finish adding drying woodiness to the overall sweetness as well as a considerable amount of indeed very cognac-like alcohol warmth, some spicy hops. Lush, almost decadent sweet barleywine, ideal slow sipper on a cold winter evening. Hair of the Dog rarely disappoints. 90 (462) - BELGIUM - MAR 5, 2017
In aroma zeer alcoholisch, zo ook in de smaak. In de smaak okkernoot, hazelnoot en porto. Zeer rond mondgevoel. 77ships (9834) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 4, 2017
ACBF 2017. Thank you for sharing kraddel, tderoeck, Travlr & friends. Sampled draft. Deep murky brown amber, red hue with zero head. Nose is alcoholic, plastic, very boozy thick sugary malts, vinous, low rotting cherry. Taste is very alcoholic, sugar, boozy, christmas tree, very sugar, extreme alcohol, sweet Christmas spice, raisin, more alcohol. Body is flat, extreme sugar & extreme alcohol. Bit of a mess, expected more, especially given the base beer. The aging process definitely didn’t improve it.
