Pours darker than a French surrealist’s blackout after a binge on absinthe. Nose is complicated & unexpected. Taste is deep malt, licorce all sorts & herbal. Feeling this probably ain’t your European absinthe (was at absinthe bar in Berlin & this ain’t exactly that stuff) but it is a unique brew. The licorce digs deep as you burn your way down the glass. Jet black with a brown head. huge licorice aroma, very intense. It is hard to get by that licorice note but there is some chocolate powder and light roast. On the palate there is more licorice, chocolate powder and a toasty bitterness. Wow, much more intense than I expected. the beer is an experience that isn’t quite forgettable and for that I commend it.

Bottle @Mondial de la bière. A dark beer with medium creamy copper head. Nose is intense on herb and ginger like. Aroma has nice dark notes with grass and some spice notes as resin and mint, light licorice, nice dark chocolate note especially at the finish. Good, almost balanced, interesting. A deep dark stout with a thin dark moka head. A light licorice aroma, with chocolate and coffee. In mouth, Pernod meets a rich stout, with chocolate mint. A very happy mix. On tap at Mondiale 2009.
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2013 On tap (Gainsbourg): Poured a pitch black color stout with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of absinthe is quite powerful with light roasted malt notes also discernable. Taste is a good mix between strong absinthe notes with some strong notes of anise and some good notes of roasted malt with light sweet finish. Body is about average with light creamy texture and no apparent alcohol. I really enjoyed the absinthe notes which are distinct but not necessarily overpowering. 2011 bottle rating - Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a super large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spices and absinth is well mix between some roasted malt with light note of lactose. Taste is also very smooth with a nice mix of herbs and spices with some clear notes of absinth and a quite sweet lactose finish. Body is quite creamy and full with OK carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice balance between the different ingredients.
Bouteille de 341ml, robe d’un noire intense, arôme d’herbe et de café, goût chocolaté et très anisé. Nekronos (4174) - Xalapa, MEXICO - DEC 27, 2012
Excellent one a little storng but nice in shape and features. Creamy and black foam. Nice thickness and aftertaste. VT (2527) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 31, 2012
341 ml bottle. Pours a brownish-reddish black with a resilient beige head. Smell is weakly roast. Taste is very herbal - leafs, chlorophyll, and smoke roast and chocolate. Finish is quite a bit roasty, quite a bit of black chocolate bitterness. A hint of liquor in there (maybe the absinth?). Also some leafs and herbal bitterness. Light to medium body. Very good, unique, unexpected stout! I was pleasantly surprised!
