In bottle, pours a black colour, however, there is an awesome green hue beneath the thin tan head. Liquorice allsorts aroma, tastes nicely bitter with the aniseedy absinthe. Quite malty with a chewy, oily mouthfeel. Not bad! dantheman278 (1365) - SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2011
Bottle courtesy of Benjii at cgarvieuk’s tasting. Pour is brown-black with red highlights. Nose is massive aniseed/liquorice (I find it hard to distinguish between the two!) with some slight herbal notes, too. Pretty sweet, with a hint of chocolate. A very decent stout, with a big liquorice/coffee bitter kick on the finish. Blairgus (4635) - California, USA - JUN 15, 2011
15 June 2011, bottle at my last cgarvieuk tasting! dark brown, thin brown lacing. liquorice allsorts candy. actually, more liquorice than is in allsorts. med body and syrupy, not very fizzy. decent syrupy aniseed stout. i could actually drink this ON OCCASION and in small portions. cgarvieuk (27059) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2011
bottle at home ... black ... thin lacing (murky green tinge)... licorice allsort on the nose ... dark roast ... huge licorice .. soft roast malt ... light toffee ... ligth bitter ... its lots of fresh licorice .. a decent licorice stout. BuckeyeBoy (9513) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAY 7, 2011
12oz Bottle. Pours out black with some red highlights topped with a tan head. Aroma was black licorice, roast malts, and some more candy sweetness. Taste is all licorice all the way, I just couldn’t get my mind off of that.

App.: Deep brown-black with a so-so mocha head.
Aroma: Intense real black licorice, some brightness, plenty of other herbal notes (absinthe, I guess), I want to say some black coffee and dark chocolate in the distance but that could be power of suggestion, lime zest, lemon Pledge, odd but not totally unpleasant.
Palate: Medium+ body, fairly velvety effervescence.
Flav.: Lemon-lime, lime zest, less licorice than the nose, other herbal notes, lemongrass, slightly peppery, again there seems to be some dark-roasted malt notes WAY in the background, a little fruity brightness, still odd; off-dry with decent bitterness and a licorice-lemon grass, grassy, herbal kinda finish.
I applaud the bold attempt. I golf clap the result.
Pitch black with a thick mocha head with above average retention. Aroma is absinth, alcohol, molasses, herbs and some coffee. Flavor is sweet at first with a healthy dose of absinth and herbs, followed by a wave of coffee and a bitter finale with warming alcohol. Medium to full body with a liquorous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Pretty tasty, but not something I would drink everyday. czar (9996) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - APR 6, 2011
on tap at brewpub. pitch black pour with a thick medium dark beige head, good retention and lacing. powerful aromas of absinthe - my nose can’t smell anything else. taste is like a shot of an aniseed spirit in your stout. a lot of coffee notes, bittering chocolate and aniseed. velvety texture, oily, full body. very enjoyable if you love absinthe.
