Vin dorge

In his historical novel The Trumpet Major, British author Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) provided a rather enticing deScription of a syrupy, malty, extra strong beer: barley wine. Our version is inspired by the pure English tradition of this style. The generous use of hops lends a solid bitterness when young that mellows with age as it protects the beer from the ravages of time. Ale de Hardy presents strong malted barley flavors accented by notes of caramel, dried fruit and a warming sensation from the higher alcohol content. Over time notes of port wine, black cherry and maple taffy may emerge.

Clear dark amber pour with a thin beige head. Interesting aroma of caramel, raisins and mild alcohol vapors. The flavor is ok, but a bit simple, caramel and raisins, also the aroma feels a lot more deep and rich than the flavor. The body is thick but the texture is not as liquorous or vinous as youd expect from a barley wine, the carbonation is soft. Overall its an ok barley wine.

0,341l bottle at home. dark brown color, small off-white head. smells of pines, resin, caramel, candy, mango, marzipan, bit parfumy. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of pines, resin, caramel, oranges, spices, marzipan, mango, some candy. finishes lightly sweet with notes of resin, oranges and spices. quite lovely stuff, great balance, not too sweat and alcohol very well hidden.

Very light haze on this red- amber beer, thin pale tan head. Palate is semi dry with decent fine carbonation. Light dry malts, some caramel - toffee. Mild savoury tone. Rich dried fruits and lesser citric peel. Fairly dry finish. Not bad.

Out of the bottle, poured a light brown, cloudy, with a thin head. I got notes of dried fruits like fig and raisins, against a rich malt background that I perceived as molasses or booze soaked raisin bread. On the palate, more malt, butterscotch, bread crust, rum/raisin, with a surprisingly dry finish. Enjoyed it.

It pours murky copper with ruby highlight; the head is beige and mousse like. The aroma has notes of: caramel, raisins, cloves, and rum. The taste is heavy sweet that finishes mildly astringent and lightly bitter. The palate is medium-heavy bodied and cloying, with no carbonation; the finish is long. Overall, its a sipper for sure.

Bottle. Cloudy brown and quite muddy appearance. Sweetness completley dominates and found it hard to find any real flavours as the sweetness was so overpowering. Very strong with lots of alcohol. Dread to think what it did to my sugar levels. First from this brewery.

Sublime !

341 ml bottle.
Pours clear dark mahogany red color with a small off-white head. Caramel on the nose, some ripe plum and raisins, mild wooden tones and subtle alcohol. Quite sweet flavor with ripe fruits, caramel, subtle toffee, hints of licorice and even some distant syrupy notes. Carbonation is soft, light bitterness on the palate finishing to a subtle alcohol burn. A very nice slow sipper.

hazy brown colour, medium sized yellowish-beige-ish head; aroma of liqueur, toffee, some toasted bred, hints of overripe fruits and surprisingly celery; taste is syrupy with the same notes (including celery - which is quite unique, but still fits to the beer); good barley wine

Hardi bravo!!
