Porter anglais

A few hundred years ago, pub owners near the London port and train stations were known to serve local porters a cheap blend of beer comprised of the remains of two or three brews that they could not sell. An ideal, inexpensive beverage to replenish one’s energy, it became known as “Porter’s Beer.” As its popularity grew, brewers then developed a beer called Entire Butt, incorporating various attributes of the original mixture to create a slightly sweet, malty brown beer with lightly burnt caramel notes. It is in homage to this era that our Big Ben Porter was created. Moderately dry with flavors of slightly burnt caramel malts and English hops to bring a light bitterness and balance it all.

Bahumat (179) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 20, 2013
Appearance: Pours a dark brown-black with a generous brown head that fades to two-finger white foam, fading gradually to a nice head. 8/10 Aroma: Nice medium notes of coffee and roast malt, with a pleasantly balanced bitterness. 8/10 Taste: Sour-sweet cocoa on the tongue fading with a pleasantly sour light bitterness on the mid-back of the tongue. 18/20 Palate: Smooth and thick across the tongue, flat, fizzy at the back of the tongue and roof, very mild astringency. Long pleasant finish of cocoa and chocolate. 8/10 Overall: All in all, this is a world champion beer. While no particular element of it entirely stands out, there is no weakness or flaw at all to be found in this porter. Perfectly harmonious in its balance, and tastes great from 6 celsius to 20 celsius temperature range! 18/20.

solidfunk (9729) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - SEP 13, 2013
Light bitter coffee and nut. Pours syrupy-looking reddish black, though texture is more on the thick than syrupy side. No head or lacing. Some roast malt. Light bitter finish. Average carbonation. Palate isn’t very complex.

DuffMan (10754) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 1, 2013
Bottle, shared with my wife. Dark, but not too dark, with golden highlights and a mediocre beige head. Aroma is sweet roast, light coffee. The palate delivers dark caramel and roast in equal portions, but the profile is thin and the sweetness has a nagging cola-like quality for me. Just okay, especially after À La Fût’s excellent porter.

rejtable (2888) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 19, 2013
Nice one! Pours pitch black with light tan head that leaves a ring. Some lacing. Nose is chocolate with some roasted malt. Aromas of light espresso, some chocolate, some dark fruit, burnt toast. Nothing too extreme. Tastes are medium sweet, little bit of bitter. Mouthfeel is medium creamy with lively carbonation. Solid.

PBoegel (29) - New York, USA - APR 18, 2013
A nice porter with a pleasant mellow roasty character underneath a semi sweet chocolate aroma. Smooth and nicely bittered to style with cocoa and touches of English toffee. Dark brown with shades of red under a nice light brown sugar toned head. Very drinkable worth seeking.

Bottle [500ml]. Pours a very dark brown with a large semi-lasting frothy tan head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma of eggshells, dry and malty, along with some chocolate, light hops, fruit and a hint of metallic notes. Flavour of roasted malt and chocolate followed by light grassy hops, fruit and some coffee. Average to medium bodied. Not great, but pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
