As the water supply was often unfit for consumption, farmers in southwestern Belgium traditionally produced a beer to quench the thirst of their workers. Produced mainly for the harvest season, it became known over time as a Saison. This beer was often slightly acidic and therefore more refreshing, exactly what was needed after a hard days work in the fields. Our Saison Tradition is brewed according to traditional recipes of Wallonian farmers. It offers dry, slightly tart fruit flavors accented by a touch of black pepper. Amongst our many tasty beers, this is one of the more thirst-quenching.

Odorat agréable, sucré, on sent l’automne.

Correct.

Pours amber. Some fruity sweetness, maybe peach or apricot. Lots of biscuity sweetness as well. Finish is a bit lemony. Decent enough beer, and a sweeter take on a saison than I’ve had before.

Doesn’t smell like much, a little grass. Taste has a little sourness, a little grass. A tiny bit of bubblegum. A very light beer - could almost be a lager, it’s not very well done for the style. There’s sourness in the aftertaste as well. Pours blond, decent lacing. There’s a little fruitiness I guess. On tap at Saint Bock.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cold in a tulip glass. 01JL12.

App.: Clear deep amber with a full off-white foam. Aroma: Slightly peppery, quite estery, pleasant honey/biscuit malt, nice and friendly. Palate: Medium+ body, somewhat prickly effervescence. Flav.: Kinda fruity, quite estery, apple cider, only a touch spicy/peppery, not bad; dry with limited bitterness and a long, fruity, estery finish.

Decent.

Pours a dark copper with a small carbonation that quickly disappears. Aroma of cinnamon, yeast and straw malt. Taste has a sharp cinnamon bite to it that slaps your tongue around. A small sweetness from the malt and a dry palate make this an interesting saison.

Fruity and spicy aromas with cinnamon, butter caramel, lemon and pepper. Cinnamon is dominant accent. Lightly cloudy, sparkling copper. Average head, creamy, good lacing and average lasting. Taste is a bit acid long lasting in mouth but is compensated with nice cinnamon and field berries flavors. Mix of acidity and sugar is quite accomplished.

Pours a deep copper with an average size lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, tart and herbal. Flavour of yeast, ginger, herbs and spices. Average bodied. Pretty good Saison.

My Bottom Line :
Caramel sweetness decorates candied oranges and leafy, vegetal leanings in this otherwise doughy example.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the misty dark amber.
-The nose is rather cake-like and evokes a sweeter brew than it really is.
-Yeast is slightly rustic, adding dusty angles.
-Body is bulky for the style.
-This may not be the most traditional of examples, but at least it is not one of those overly spiced New World versions.

Bottle.
