Lager Brune

Prost!

Since its arrival in Bavaria, beers brewed in the Lower Saxony city of Einbeck were highly prized by beer drinkers. With a Bavarian accent “Einbeck bier! ” sounded like ” Eine bock bier! ” Gradually this linguistic difference gave name to a distinctively strong, malty lager beer with a goat (“bock” in German) as its symbol. L’Entêté is inspired by traditional Bavarian dunkel bocks. Its prominent “toasted biscuit” malty notes and slightly caramelized touch give L’Entêté a pleasing mouthfeel that will satisfy the malt aficionado. Continental noble hops balance the flavor without bringing much bitterness. Prost!

50cl Bottle @ 2D2Dspuma Tienda, Barcelona, Spain. Dark amber colour with a frothy tan head. Aroma is toffee, roasted malt, nuts, raisins, spices. Taste is malt, cereal, sweet, nuts. Medium body, average carbonation.

Pours a murky brown, with a big beige head. Incredibly malty nose. Big notes of sweet grains, caramels, and fresh bread with some dry hay, and grassy hops. Good carb, mouth feel is viscous. Finish is sweet, but not cloying. Big bread notes, loads of sweet grains. This borders on doppelbock.

Pours a deep amber topped by two fingers of creamy beige head showing a rough structure, great retention and nice chunky lacing. Vivid microcarbonation is spotted underneath the porous layer that the head leaves. The nose is toffee, raisins, toasted/nutty malts giving off hints of almonds and some spice (savory and nutmeg). The taste follows the same profile with a nice balance between the nutty and the sweet. The brew feels medium bodied, a bit liquorish with a slight fluid aspect. The bitterness is just right and sets the finish on a long nutty road. I would pair this Dunkel with a hearty beef stew, brisket or a chocolate dessert. Cheers!

Passe un peu dans le beurre; manque de caractère mais se boit tout de même bien sans détruire trop les papilles.

Pour is a muddy reddish-brown with no head/lacing/retention, as expected. Nose is toffee, prunes, raisins and spice - basically mincemeat, come to think of it. There’s a bit of nuttiness as well. Taste is toffee, prunes, hazelnuts, and the aforementioned mincemeat. Body is medium, texture is oily, and a touch watery, with just a touch of bitterness to go with the fruit/caramel/alcohol that linger a bit on the finish. This brewery rarely wows me, but they also rarely disappoint.

500 ml bottle. Dark red colour. Lots of toasty caramel malt. Mild German style hops. Serviceable bock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewery. The brewery’s first lager. A stone fruit or fruitcake bready aroma. Toasted malts, sweetly balanced and medium-thin bodied but possibly thin for the style in my opinion.

Spab (3898) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 1, 2014
500 ml bottle from Drummondville Metro. Pours a clear dark copper colour with moderate-sized eggshell-coloured head. Aroma is fruity with some nuts, roast and an odd spiciness. Flavour is lightly roasty, sweet caramel, banana and other fruitiness, light nutiness and an underwhelming spicy note. Average body. Ok.
