Lager Brune

Prost!

Since its arrival in Bavaria, beers brewed in the Lower Saxony city of Einbeck were highly prized by beer drinkers. With a Bavarian accent “Einbeck bier! ” sounded like ” Eine bock bier! ” Gradually this linguistic difference gave name to a distinctively strong, malty lager beer with a goat (“bock” in German) as its symbol. L’Entêté is inspired by traditional Bavarian dunkel bocks. Its prominent “toasted biscuit” malty notes and slightly caramelized touch give L’Entêté a pleasing mouthfeel that will satisfy the malt aficionado. Continental noble hops balance the flavor without bringing much bitterness. Prost!

Lubiere (13898) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 26, 2013
A reddish amber bock with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nutty and chalky malt with mash tun notes. In mouth, a smooth nutty malt with grassy character and mineral notes. Bottle at Festibière de Gatineau, May 26, 2013.

My Bottom Line:
Wooden hops and Munich malts’ candied fruit angles converge onto an earthy aftertaste in this well-made but ultimately unmemorable Dunkler Bock.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam decorates the clear mahogany.
-The soft mouthfeel increases drinkability, which is quite high for the style.
-This is on the dry side for a Dunkler Bock, imho.
-The flavor profile is balanced.
-Malts could be a bit more expressive.
-Mineral edges appear here and there.

pours almost clear brown-reddish with a nice off-white head, good retention, some lacing. toasted caramel, light roasted notes, hint of sweetness, never cloying, light bananas, spicy malts, pepper, graininess, light but fairly present grassy hops, leafiness. average carbonation, light ot medium body, decent grassy-peppery finish. enjoyed it!

Good smell of malt here with some aromas of spice. A little roast as well and some caramel. Pours mahagony with some good creamy foam and a little lacing. Taste leaves with a little sweetness and a little bitterness. Decent, drinkable beer. 500 ml bottle thanks to Boutip.

(Rating #4669)

Boutip (6372) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 19, 2012
Bottle: Poured a deep brown color bock with a large foamy head with good carbonation and light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt that is dryer then expected with some light spicy notes. Taste is dryer again then expected with a spicy finish which appears to originate from the malt. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting and while not being unpleasant the spicy notes are somewhat surprising.

Bottle (500 ml). I don’t know who brought this, but thanks! Dark copper with a small beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, cloying spices, light banana and sweetness notes. Taste is moderately sweet with light roasted notes, fruity notes and, again, too much spices. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Spicy finish. This brewery is awful with spices. Most of their beers are just bad because of the spices (either too much and bad use of them). Not easily drinkable, nor enjoyable.

On tap at the brewery. The brewery’s first lager. A stone fruit or fruitcake bready aroma. Toasted malts, sweetly balanced and medium-thin bodied but possibly thin for the style in my opinion.

Pours a murky brown, with a big beige head. Incredibly malty nose. Big notes of sweet grains, caramels, and fresh bread with some dry hay, and grassy hops. Good carb, mouth feel is viscous. Finish is sweet, but not cloying. Big bread notes, loads of sweet grains. This borders on doppelbock.
