Lager Brune

Prost!

Since its arrival in Bavaria, beers brewed in the Lower Saxony city of Einbeck were highly prized by beer drinkers. With a Bavarian accent “Einbeck bier! ” sounded like ” Eine bock bier! ” Gradually this linguistic difference gave name to a distinctively strong, malty lager beer with a goat (“bock” in German) as its symbol. L’Entêté is inspired by traditional Bavarian dunkel bocks. Its prominent “toasted biscuit” malty notes and slightly caramelized touch give L’Entêté a pleasing mouthfeel that will satisfy the malt aficionado. Continental noble hops balance the flavor without bringing much bitterness. Prost!

Surprenant. Je recommande. Bon produit et excellente présence en bouche. Cheers!

500mL bottle from Broue Ha Ha. Pours a clearish dark brown with a medium beige head, and the aroma is a very solid rendition of the style. Prunes, dark bread, herbal hops, rich maltiness, everything is spot on. Flavour-wise it also delivers on all these notes, with a slightly oily, fuller mouth-feel. The rich sweetness has some balance in the finish from dry, herbal hops. I quite enjoyed this one, and it’s a solid example of a Dunkler Bock.

Pours a deep amber topped by two fingers of creamy beige head showing a rough structure, great retention and nice chunky lacing. Vivid microcarbonation is spotted underneath the porous layer that the head leaves. The nose is toffee, raisins, toasted/nutty malts giving off hints of almonds and some spice (savory and nutmeg). The taste follows the same profile with a nice balance between the nutty and the sweet. The brew feels medium bodied, a bit liquorish with a slight fluid aspect. The bitterness is just right and sets the finish on a long nutty road. I would pair this Dunkel with a hearty beef stew, brisket or a chocolate dessert. Cheers!

Bouteile 500 ml. 6%.

Pours a dark brown with a velvet beige top. Aroma is chocolate and dark caramel malts. Taste is a strong slightly bitter toasted and toffee in the malt profile. A little chocolate to finish.

Pours a murky brown, with a big beige head. Incredibly malty nose. Big notes of sweet grains, caramels, and fresh bread with some dry hay, and grassy hops. Good carb, mouth feel is viscous. Finish is sweet, but not cloying. Big bread notes, loads of sweet grains. This borders on doppelbock.
