Appearance: Pours a dark brown body not quite opaque because i can see my fingers through the glass. Cherry red tinges when held to the light and forms a thick, 3 finger tan head. Smell: Caramel, smoke & butterscotch? Taste: Major smokiness when first tasting it with maltiness & kind of sweet. The smoked feel permeates the taste a little too much but settles down a little as it warms. Finishes with a tinge of bitterness. Caramel also rounds out the taste. Mouthfeel: Smooth and a little light. Not too carbonated maybe a teensy bit watery. Reviewed on: 02-21-2009

pours hazy dark copper-brownish with a decent beige head, some retention. caramel roasted and lightly smoked malts, dark fruits, dry fruitiness, light to medium hopping - grassy. average carbonation, medium body, nice grassy and smokey finish. decent brew.

Pours a murky brown color with ruby highlights and a thin, light brown head. Aroma of caramel with peated, mildly roasted malt. Good flavor of caramel and peated malt. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2010 The aroma is so smooth with a perfect malt scotch flavor and no alcohol bit. There is pete clearly in the nose but not flavored. The color is murky without much head. The flavor is the smoothest I have ever had for a scoctch ale. It is not creamy, just smoth ale and scotch malt flavor throughout.

Bottle [341ml]. Pours a murky amber-brown with a small diminishing beige head. Nice aroma of peat, toasted caramel malt, wood, chocolate, toffee, light herbal hops and more -- I’m impressed. Flavour pretty much follows, with smoke/peat, toasted caramel malt, wood, toffee, some light hops, chocolate, maybe some dark fruit -- there’s just lots going on here and it’s hard to place it all, but it’s very good. Alcohol’s there but reasonably well hidden for the abv. Medium bodied. Wow, I’m shocked how low some of the ratings for this are, this is a solid beer -- Well done Brasseurs et Frères!

A hazy brown ale with a thin moka head, little floaties. In aroma, nice porto, vinous, woody notes, caramel, rather musky and pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet vinous and smokey ale with sweet vinous character, smokey, peaty, nice warming alcohol, resinous hops. A rich and woodyy brew.

Bouteille 341ml.

341 ml bottle shared with my day on 09.08.30 : Before I start I don’t like smoky Scotch Ale. Sparing head, excellent lacing it’s murky and brown in color. The only thing I smell is smoke it’s not too much. The body is full and the finish is long.

My Bottom Line:
Bountiful smoked malts rise from caramelized cherries in this portly, friendly Smoked Scotch Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A dollop of foam recedes to a ring atop the nearly translucent burgundy.
-Carbonation is cushy and residual sugars are well levelled (for the style), making for a velvety smooth mouthfeel.
-The aroma is not as developed as the flavor profile.
-Alcohol provides a little warmth.
-The smoke is both wooden and peaty.
-I prefer this Scotch Ale recipe to their Délivrance’s.

(Rating #2326)
