Draft - Toasted malts. Deep black brown with a decent beige head. Toasted malts, light smoke, spice and a light sourness. Odd and ashtray like.

Med brown, not much head, lightly spicy and appley aroma. Thinnish spent grain character. Light spice/yeast and neither sweetness nor hops to balance it out. I’m always skeptical of this concept and with good reason. It’s just not a good idea and too often it falls flat.

Draught at the brewery
The color is dark brown near black with small head. Mild aroma, stale pond water. Dry mouthfeel; some roasted malt, luckily with mild impact, followed by some yeast spiciness, light spruce, expected bitterness level.
It won’t make an impact.

Growler (473 ml). From Thomas, thanks! Dark brown (almost black) with a huge slowly diminishing beige head and some lacing. Aroma is of spices, roasted malt, sweetness and light tartness. Taste is slightly to moderately sweet with spices, roasted malt, light caramel and light tartness. Light to medium body. Low to moderate carbonation. Good black Saison. Interesting spiciness and tartness. A little more carbonation would help the drinkability, but it’s may be only because the growler traveled all across Canada.

473mL growler, pours near-black with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out some tart leathery notes, some barnyard notes, and a hint of sweetness. Flavour brings out some subtle barnyard notes, a little leather, and a very subtle dry tartness on the finish. There’s a noticeable earthy quality to this as well. Very well-constructed, with a nice and dry, lightly tart flavour profile. Great stuff.
