Shared a 750 of this with friends today. The smell is a bit off putting, but it tastes alright I guess. I don’t get a ton of barrel from this and while I get some sweetness from the whiskey, it’s not very good. Rando7 (779) - Iowa, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle pours orange brown with one finger muddy white head. Aroma of dark fruits and faint whiskey. Taste initially sweet with whiskey and malts, dark fruits. As it warms the sweetness fades. Finish sour. Palate thick.Hercamund_Hops (29) - Rooster Poop, Nebraska, USA - APR 3, 2013
Initially flavor excellent but just couldn’t maintain it. I just don’t think the underlying quad is strong enough to support the barrel aging. I love quads and barrel aged beers so had high hopes that this couldn’t quite live up to.
UPDATED: APR 5, 2013 4/4/13 11.5% LOOK: amber with light khaki head NOSE: nice! The whisky is there, warm orange hops, creamy orange like sherbet, hint of strawberry, a little bready, some spicy notes and some wood, apple, buttery brown sugar, buttered popcorn, some maltiness, lemon seed oil TASTE: heavy, a little sweet, some alcohol taste but quickly kept in check with some very nice buttery creamy citrus flavors, sweet woodiness and cast iron on the finish FEEL: heavy and smooth with slightly dry finish OVERALL: different and pretty complex, I like this one! ...Slightly chilled to room temp ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Minderbinder (3469) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 12, 2013
Pours brown with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of malt, fruits, yeast, green apples, alcohol. Taste is of malt, fruits, sligth acid, some alcohol. Palate: Medium body. Overall: Pretty good, reminescent of wine barrel-aged stuff. czar (9266) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 12, 2013
bottle shared by mathieuc, thanks! pours hazy light reddish with a low off-white head, decent retention, abv and BA-wise. some caramel and demerara but mainly fruitiness with a hint of red fruit tartness - raisins - maybe even some other vinous characteristics, oaky acidity - few acetic and peppery tingling notes. floral-herbalness, smooth banana bourbony esters along with candi and few spices - shy yeast. average to soft carbonation, medium body - oily, nice herbal-citrusy lightly acidic finish. more of a barleywine to my sense. good!

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by mathieuc, thanks! Dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of raisins (lots!), green apple (don’t know if it’s an off-flavor or if it’s from the whiskey), fruits, slight caramel and some alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet with fruits, green apple and slight acidic presence (not unpleasant). Medium to heavy body (but not that heavy for an 11,5% abv beer). Good beer, even better when give some time to breath. I liked it. Treebs (872) - , Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2013
750 ml waxed bottle served in a Southern tier tulip. Thanks to supercolter for the beer.
A: Pours a hazy brown color with a light khaki head. It recedes quickly to a thin fizzy head. Some splotchy lace is left down the glass.
S: Some tobacco and dark fruit flavors with a little kick of whiskey. Roasted malts with an underlying brown sugar sweetness.
T: Lots of sugary sweetness and dark fruit flavors. Some leather with the fruity Belgian yeast. Whiskey bite with some oak.
M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. The finish is a little boozy, but not hot.
O: This was a solid BA quad. The booze was noticeable, but it wasn’t hot and didn’t detract from the overall flavor profile.

Pours a deep reddish brown color with a medium tan head and some decent lacing on the glass. DaBrew05 (12) - - FEB 5, 2013
The aroma is fig, oak, & anise. Eventually as I swish it around some dark cherry and bourbon character show up.
The flavor is pretty boozy, but it’s nice as well. The beer is sweet without being cloying with nice dark fruit notes of fig and loads of raisin. There is some bright fruitiness as well, particularly pear. The spice element is nice again with some anise & maybe a touch of cinnamon. The whiskey character is not particularly rich, but some oak and vanilla notes are nice additions here.
The beer is viscous but also well carbonated and prickly on the tongue.
Pretty friggin good.
Deep caramel color with a cream colored head. Sweet aroma and taste with a nice bourbon flavor coming through. Excellent beer. igneous1 (1537) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - JAN 23, 2013
hazy caramel color, slight head. nose is predominantly buttery toffee with notes of bourbon. flavor is equal parts toffee and bourbon and is quite woody/earthy. only mild hints of alcohol in the finish, which is somewhat surprising for an 11.5% ABV beer. very nice.
